Another Road Trip but...

Just returned from a 3415 mi swing to Moab, Taos, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, St George, Gallup, Sun Valley and back with many side trips on the route and triple digit temps from Moab to SV. Let me preface this by sharing that the week before lift off I had me second oil change where 6 flashes were applied to Cherri.

The first leg was all interstate to Spanish Forks, UT, then as many back roads as possible that led to me destinations. Not sure if I'm being paranoid but prior to the flashes I was having no issues the the KL. The Zed F had its shinny moments but had some clunky ones too. On the trip it seemed like some of the clunky chunky shifts were more noticeable than prior to the flashes. 8 to 7 is seamless but then I get this 7 to 5 that is really clunky, along with going back up thru 5-6-to 7. These seem to be more noticeable. Still have the freewheel feeling while it settles down into 4 but that has always been there. Second gear remains available and saw 9th on several occasions running on US 64 and 89 and the 40, and the 90 so not all bad. But running down the mountain passes almost always had to disengaged the cruise to keep the tach from bouncing tween 1500 and 4000 and also used ERS going up to keep the gear hunting down. Tranny temps never were never an issue so again maybe I'm just being paranoid.

The flashes had no effect on mpg as I averaged 30+ for the trip and saw 32.9 on one stretch. Ran the AC in Max for most of the trip and used cruise whenever possible. So still love taking her out for a spin as much as she likes getting out and running hard. 9 hours a day on the wheel, no problem! Cherokee love! Happy 4th of July my Jeep friends and safe travels!

TedB, sgrim, goobnav and 2 others like this.

Sounds like a great trip, thanks for sharing...

Since there were so many flashes done before you left, maybe the trans is still in the "learning" phase and will eventually settle down.

Sounds like a great trip! Agree with @mults in that you may be back in a 'learning' phase.
