You would need the VIN from the Cherokee you got the radio from for sure. I don't know too much about adding a heating element to the steering wheel and if it would work with the 8.4. If the radio from the Cherokee you got it from had a factory heated steering wheel I would think yours would work. But I would think when you get your radio flashed at the dealer, that button could go away if it's not stock.

Also, you would need to get a new bezel to fit the new 8.4. Check out this thread from another member. He had the same setup as you and did the swap not too log ago. Another 5.0 to 8.4 upgrade - Less expensive route

I was able to get my activation code free from http://www.techkings.org

There is (or at least was) a thread on there where I gave the VIN from the donor Jeep and the serial numbers from the radio and they replied with the code. Worked perfectly

Finally got my Cherokee flashed this morning. Kind of a blessing in disguise, but I had an instance the other morning where the Cherokee shifted itself into neutral while driving.... Made it to work and immediately called the closest dealer to drop it off to check it out (and an oil change) There is no service bulletin for transmission on the 2017, but they found a bunch of TCM and BCM updates available, and at the same time, flashed the radio to my Cherokee's specific components.

With only having to pay for the oil change, I think I made out pretty darn good, saved the $99 flash fee, made out with much smoother transmission shifting, and they even washed my Cherokee and had it waiting by the door the dealership that gave me the most crap about installing the 8.4 uconnect ended up being extremely helpful.

Thank you to everyone on here for sharing your experiences and advice during this project, I would have never attempted to upgrade without this forum! Now I can conclude this project and move onto the next, thinking of side led lights that shine the jeep logo on the ground....

Thanks again!!!!
