5.0 to 8.4N/RA4 Upgrade

Just upgraded my '14 Cherokee with the new 8.4 system from the basic 5.0 that had no sirius/xm, back up camera, etc. Bought the 8.4 system on eBay (very hesitant at first) but turned out it was completely plug n play and worked great! The listing on eBay said it was just the basic 8.4 ra3 system with no nav but when I installed it, the nav option happened to be on there and works just great! Awesome surprise! Saved some money too. Now I just need to buy the antenna for it which shouldn't be too expensive. This system is 100x better than the 5.0. Definitely recommend doing this upgrade if you are interested.

Great upgrade! Even better, looks completely stock / standard

See if you can snag a shark-fin antenna off of an Overland. Good luck!

Did you require the dealer to re-program the radio to your car?

BTW the 5.0 does have xm, backup camera, etc. available as options.

so you got navigation for free there? that is amazing, i think the dealer charges people $1000 for the code to unlock nav

Someone made reference of a vendor that's selling keys for $300-ish.

I'm guessing the unit he received / purchased, was pulled from a totaled Cherokee that had Nav activated.

It would essentially be like you taking my 8.4AN and installing it.

Great! I just scored a RA4 with nav from another 2016 cherokee out of a junk yard to upgrade my 5.0. I'm hoping it'll be plug n play. I just pulled my 5.0 out and see that I don't have the blue navigation connector so I too will need to purchase a nav antenna. I believe this is the part number? 5064350AA
http://www.justforjeeps.com/rergpsantenna.html Does the gps antenna install under the dash just below the windshield or does it have to be routed through to the roof?

I didn't go to the dealer at all. When I installed the 8.4, it needed an anti-theft code right away or nothing would work at all. I went to justanswer.com and messaged Brad (who is a certified Jeep mechanic) and I gave him the VIN of the car the 8.4 came from and the serial number of the 8.4. He then messaged me back 10 min later with the anti-theft code and worked just great. It only cost me $20 to retrieve it. That was a HUGE savings than going into the dealership which I heard they could charge $100-$300 just to get the anti-theft code. Saved a lot of time too.

And I know the 5.0 has those options. I just wanted a bigger screen and better system

Not very sure where it needs to be but I saw some threads where they bought the antenna (which looks just like the sirius/xm magnetic antenna) and they just set it in the little cubby that is just above the radio. I'm still looking around for an antenna but will post if I purchase one.

There's a company on amazon that sells shark fins for the cherokee. Color match painted to your car
