Here. I have a video. You see I start with 4wd turn on but towards the end I'm in fwd only. This was the 2014 when it shut it off completely. The 2016 just reduces the power it sends.

Are you saying it reduces the power to the rear wheels (I cant watch the video, my internet is crap..)? Thats totally contradictory to the problem! The over heating is caused by the clutch pack slipping so reducing the power is reducing the clutch engagement and generating more slip, ie, more heat!

The ideal solution is to either disengage clutch totally like the earlier models or even better engage clutch 100% so there is no slip ad therefore no heat. That is assuming it is in sand-mud modes.

I have done the same thing in mine and for longer, I have had no such issues. Mine is a 15... don't know if that makes a difference... but I find this peculiar and not normal for what I have experienced and done in mine...

Now I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think they've sorted out nearly all the problems with the 2016 and soon to be released 2017's. No transmission issues, rare diff overheating, no wobbles, etc.

I do, I just haven't got the OK to post it remember

As for the 4x4 overheating, and I know we are getting off topic, is this happening to people when not in 4 low, since it you are in 4 low and the clutch packs are locked, there really isn't going to be a bunch of heat generated VS being in the "high" mode in auto or any of the other settings?

My overheating was all in very soft deep powdery sand in hi range sand mode. In low range transmission was approx 50C cooler and engine a little cooler.

My transmission on the highway sits around the 70 to 80c, offroad around the 150 to 170c. Engine sits mostly in the mid 90c mark most of the time rising to a steady 105c under loads. When I lost 4wd both times the engine was at 105c and the transmission at 228c.

After testing low range in soft sand I found the transmission has never risen above 170c and I have not lost 4wd. What I would really love to know is the rear diff temp since this seems to be the culprit generating heat then shutting down.

Would be nice to have a proper Jeep provided explanation of how all these systems operate so an educated decision can be made to what mode to use and when - @JeepCares - any possibilities?
