Shifter button failure

So my shifter button randomly fell off the other day... took it in to have the dealership replace it... guess what!? Not covered under my max care warranty... surprised? I'm so annoyed. Can't replace the button and the whole handle is 141 dollars

What?? Why not covered? It should be under power train I would have thought since without it the power train doesn't work..

this is where Aussie warranties are great, (we paid through the nose for it though... as we have to service at dealerships thats so under warranty in this country... I even got the sunglass holder fixed under warranty as it rattled... they replaced the whole module.

Interesting you bumped into this exclusion. I probably glossed over this when reading the contract. This is what's in the Mopar LIFETIME MAXIMUM CARE contract:

THE PLAN WILL NOT COVER, OR APPLY TO LOSS OR EXPENSE RESULTING FROM:
• Interior - trim; carpet; upholstery; dash pad; door and window handles; knobs; buttons; moldings; arm rests and head liner; cargo cover

Maybe you could argue the case @David_Baker made above by calling them at 1-800-521-9922 (in USA).

Yep that's exactly what he said... they count that as trim... but you can't just buy the button, you have to buy the whole handle.... such bull

I'd try bypassing the dealer and calling them direct. A mechanical button on the shifter does not seem to qualify as trim; but it does fall under the interior button and knob exclusion.

Wonder if the horn button, and all the other buttons on the steering wheel are excluded too?

I claim BS as well....without it the vehicle does not function....unlike a radio button or similar. I think I would try to bump that up the chain as well.

This does give me pause regarding my MaxCare Lifetime as well....I didn't read the fine print ;-{

Edit to add: now seeing your pic, can you push any part without the piece that fell off to still drive the vehicle? Does it look as though it could be repaired DIY?

Here's a picture of what it looks like without the button just if anyone is interested.

If the warranty fails to cover it, wonder if you could get one of those at a junk yard.
