Cool $109 bucks at the dealer

I was quoted $109 to change air filter and cabin filter......................OUCH

I picked up both on EBay for $16.24 now they went up to $19.10 still a great deal the Air filter says Mopar on it and the Cabin filter says China. It matches up perfect in every way. After 1 year and 20k of driving they were BAD

Defiantly do it yourself jobs. Did both of mine in about 15 minutes total. Wise move.

@MarinR00 reported a similar experience earlier this year.

Picked up an activated carbon filter and installed my own for about $30 and 4 minutes of time.

i'm baffled why the airbox has 5 of the longest screws holding the lid on, they aren't even easily accessible screws

Yes, I thought so too, it's weird most other cars just have 4 spring loaded clips. Also when changing the Cabin Filter they sure don't make it easy with the lack of room that took longer then the Air filter

Cabin

Air

Hope this helps

Yeah man - that's how they get you. I posted something similar a few months ago. Just do it yourself. Its a racket.

But here is what REALLY makes me angry. 2 weeks ago I replaced the cabin air filter. $19 and 1.5 minutes. Last Friday I dropped my KL off for the 25k maintenance. On Saturday, they called to tell me what the found, etc. They also stated my cabin air filter was dirty and needed to be replaced.

I about lost it. I calmly told the guy that it was a straight up lie, since I had replaced the filter 2 weeks prior. He mumbled something about no knowing why they said it was dirty.

All that said... the dealership will just assume you are an idiot and have no idea about where the air filter is and will just tell you it needs replacement. Don't be a sucker. Take the 2 minutes and do it yourself!

a lady i know brought her car to a goodyear place for oil change. they brought out this really dirty airfilter and told her she needed a new one. she said fine. about 15 minutes later they came out and told her they couldnt replace it because the screws were stripped and they couldnt get it open. ha! then what was it they had showed her that was dirty???

Gotta watch the dealers and others. Plain and simple. Took my Chevy 2500 2WD truck (2400) into one of the quickie oil change places. They handed me a bill which seemed awful high for just an oil change. Got to reading it and it said they changed the oil in my transfer case? I said you changed the oil in my transfer case? They said yeah it was really bad. I asked the cashier to get the manager, I was not paying the bill and instead calling the PD lol. He came out and told me I had to pay for what they did and I had told them to do it. I then said get the guy who changed the transfer case out here and have him show me where he put the oil in. Manager looked at me funny. "Kid" came in and said yes he did in fact change it. I explained it was impossible as my truck does NOT have a transfer case, it's 2WD lol. Major embarrassment on their part. I left and wasn't even charged for the oil change (yes made sure they did it lol). On another visit at a different place I was told my air cleaner was dirty and needed a new one. I asked to see it lol. A guy brought out a dirty filter and showed me. I asked what you did with mine? He said this is yours. Ummm ...I had a K&N in there. Went out and sure enough my K&N was still in there.

Really need to watch these folks AND some dealers. Again the dealers can make or break your whole post sales experience. Major complaints were filed with each company. This is a great post as well for saving a ton of money and time.
