Ouch, feel like this 4WD System is very sensitive, hearing about PTU's being replaced a lot or "overheating" etc. Hopefully it's just a one time thing for you.

28989 miles when I dropped it off. Around 28600 when the chime went off and 4WD SVC light flashed. Finished a 250+ mile trip that was towing my travel trailer over 220 of them. Service advisor didn't tell me much about it (phone call) other than it would be done this Friday. Truth be told, not even sure what a PTU looks like....small electrical unit? Big mechanical component? Combo of both?

Gonna be looking into extended warranties now....

Any thoughts as to whether this was a 'normal' failure or something related the beautiful rig you tow : - )

Didn't go into detail with the phone call. Will find out when I pick it up. That is a pretty massive piece of machinery! No idea if just control module -- seemed to me like it was the larger piece. They may say more (possible reasons for it happening) when I get it back. Since it didn't grenade while pulling the trailer and I finished the trip I really doubt it was towing related.

Dealership called. They installed the PTU last night and it was tested this morning. Not right, they think the replacement PTU is bad. Another has been placed on order. New expected repair date is middle of next week......

Well that's not good news. Hopefully it remains a smooth process.

You have to replace the PTU and the control module as a set, otherwise the new PTU don't work....FWD Cherokee all the way.
BTDT.

And just like that......I 'm guessing they probably didn't replace the module at the same time....might want to mention it to them.
