ESS - Manually turn off will turn Heated seats/steering wheel off.

This is the second winter with my 16 Cherokee TH 3.2L, and I'm just noticing this.

I prefer to drive with the ESS system turned off during these winter months, so every time i get into the Cherokee I Manually turn it off with the button below the radio interface. ( Button is an A with an arrow surround it)

There have some been some sleepy mornings where i have forgotten to turn the ESS system off, and my heated seats, and steering wheel will be on. The ESS system will engage and so i will press the button below the interface to turn ESS off. The Cherokee starts back up, but my heated seats and steering wheel turn themselves off.

I'm just curious if anyone else has had this issue, or if i should allow the Cherokee ESS to engage properly by releasing the brake and then turning it off with the button below the interface.

Maybe someone knows if that button acts as more than just an ESS engage/disengage

Don't have the ESS in my 2014 but I would imagine you can (re) engage the heated seats/wheel in uconnect just like the rest of us ;-)

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.

Of course they can be turned back on, just an inconvenience. I spoke to the dealer but didn't get much other than "we've never seen this before"

This is a problem I've described to @JeepCares. If the ESS is active (engine off at a stop) and the heated seats both passenger and driver and the steering wheel are all on when you press to deactivate the ESS it turns off all the seat functions too. Blowers or heaters. Currently I just make sure to turn ESS off before I come to a stop.

I have noticed the same, but it only turns off the seat/wheel heat if the outside temp is above 40 F. Stays on if outside temp is below that.

My heated steering wheel turns off after about 30 seconds regardless of ESS. I have to turn it back on, but then it stays on. A minor inconvenience but I'm not going to leave it at a dealer over it. This is my second Winter with the 2016 TH. While I hate Winters, I love the TH.

The ESS gets turned off most of the time unless I'm driving in stop and go highway traffic which is seldom. It works Greer for drive-thrus but since fast food is pretty much just terrible, I tend to avoid it unless forced by travel on a long drive.

Again the ESS is a minor nuisance. More about pleasing big government than saving a ton of fuel.

I think mine turns off the heated seat-steering wheel if I turn the ESS off after forgetting too before I stop the first time and then turn it off.

Thanks. This is exactly what is happening. I just had the TH in last week for annual inspection. If I had known. Next time I take it in for their "Free" oil changes, for life... I bring my own oil as I'm trying to stick with Mobil 1, on this car. Just for my own experiment. They use various Penzoil products, which are fine. I almost wished I never started using the Mobil 1 in the first place. I hate changing out brands especially when using full synthetic but the price on Mobil 1 is pretty much on par with most of the oils on the shelves these days.

We have had this happen to us a couple of times but haven't taken it in because it is not consistent and repeatable. Like you I don't like the ESS so turn it off as soon as I start the car but but there have been times when the heated seat, especially the passenger seat is selected first, the seats will turn themselves off really quick, we select them again, no issues. But when the ESS is disengaged first, the seats and probably the steering wheel, stay on.
