I am the designer of the SmartStopStart module for the WK2 Grand Cherokee.

I need a volunteer to let me have access to his or her 3.2 V6 KL Cherokee with the ESS feature in to finalize the Cherokee version of my product which allow you to select the start-up default for ESS.

I estimate I will need access for a couple of hours or so. I can come to you or you can come to me in Arlington, VA...your preference. All I will be doing is reading some data from the diagnostic port and testing the product.

You will get a free module in exchange. If I need any time over 2 hours, I will pay additional cash of $100 an hour. Please PM me if interested.

@whitexkr your request is fine by me. Reaching out for Cherokee owners isn't a problem. I do however ask that you not advertise on the forum without contacting the admins, not that you have just being proactive.

Sadly I myself am in Texas otherwise I'd be happy to let you tinker with my Cherokee. Any 2015 and up 3.2l should work for you.

Thank you @IRSmart for lending your car to this effort, which will benefit many owners.

I made tremendous progress today modifying the WK2 product to work on the KL. Hopefully I will clinch it with one more session, then followed by testing with a few Beta testers before it goes on sale.

@IRSmart has been VERY generous with his time and the use of his car.

If you wanted to test on an export model I would be happy to throw my hat in the ring too. (Australian version)

I would be willing to beta test my 2017 if you need me.

So, as an update, OP has successfully programmed a module for my car that seems to be working fully to allow the Start/Stop button to have a memory feature. I've been testing it for a week now and it is working flawlessly! Just thought I would give you guys a heads up (with OP's blessing of course!)

Are you perhaps considering - or open to - the idea of an extra feature ? Here's what I have in mind... I like ESS, actually, but would really like it more if it had a built-in 1 second delay before Stop occurs. One full second is all that is needed, I think, to make it a much more efficient and friendly system.

Just throwing it out there... ;)

God yes. My biggest hate about the system is I pull into a parking spot and it shuts off then turns on again as I put it in park. The the entire system glitches and I have to wait 30 seconds or so before the start button allows me to shut the engine down.

I have no idea how a delay could be implemented, if it's a simple task or whether deeper system computing needs to be reached to achieve this... but honestly, adding a one second delay to Stop would make ESS a great system, not just a poorly implemented sometimes annoying good idea.

As the successful test mule, I can tell anyone who dislikes the ESS to buy this module the moment it is available. There is NO programming required, it's literally plug and play. This accessory is priceless!
