MOPAR Lifetime warranty on new Jeep - Worth it or not?

New 2016 Cherokee as of last week. Dealer mentioned that I could upgrade the 3 year warranty to a lifetime one for $3500. I told them I might be interested, but the price was too steep, but they said it was firm and there was no wiggle room.

My question is whether it is worth it? I looked over the details, and from what I can see it's a good deal. Only drawback is the cost.

I wanted to get opinions from other owners... did you get the lifetime warranty? What are the pros/cons?

Any advice is welcome!

Haha. Do us a favor and reward your dealer's "honesty" by purchasing the warranty online for maybe $1,000 less. Others will chime in with the name of the very reputable contact at a company (dealer?) that sells them online. I paid $100 over cost on mine, and paid between $2300 and $2500. Sorry the numbers are fuzzy.

If you plan to own it for a long time, it's a good idea to add it.

It is non transferrable even to family members. If you get it and later sell the vehicle, you need to contact FCA to get some of the residual value back. After 7 yrs, the value is 25 bucks.

The mopar lifetime warranty can be purchased online for something in the range of 2200 I think. I got a 6 year 80,000 when I bought my jeep, 2 months later I went in and paid an additional 400 to get the lifetime. They let me just pay the difference from my extended warranty.

I got the MaxCare Lifetime at my dealer but only after getting a quote from Clay @ Zeller Motors (check posts here for contact, or online) and telling them I would buy from him unless they would match. It's all gravy to them as they get paid for warranty work anyway. Clay's quote was around $2400 but I had to pay tax in Maine so it ended up at around $2600 to me.

I drive my vehicles at least to 150,000 miles so it will probably pay off for me. If not, because the KL turns out to be incredibly reliable, the peace of mind for that long will be worth it.

Hey Dan,

I paid $2550 for my Mopar MaxCare Lifetime with $100 Ded. Anything higher than that is dealer markup so you need to go back to the dealer and tell them you have a a quote for that amount and will take it unless they match it. My dealer did but, if they wouldn't you can contact Clay at Zeller Motors and he'll get it.

Like yourself, plan to keep the ride until they pay me since the repair would be more than the value at that time per the warranty. >:D

It's my understanding that Lifetime warranties come with a lot of caveats, such as sticking to an overly liberal maintenance program. If you miss a step, is it warranty void?

YOUR ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: It is your responsibility to properly operate, care for and maintain the Vehicle as
prescribed in the owner’s manual supplied by the manufacturer. If you fail to properly operate, care for and maintain the
Vehicle as prescribed in the owner’s manual supplied by the manufacturer, we may deny your claim under the Plan. You
should retain all maintenance records and receipts to avoid any misunderstanding as to whether or not the maintenance
services were performed as required

What... the Dealer don't have WEB access, If the seller is $1G more and you go back and they match it ,Hmmm To me That would indicate that they were over charging in the 1st place. Its like going back to Girl/Boy Friend that promises to be half the maintenance.

If they were within a few bucks Maybe I would just pay it , $1G no thanks I'm taking My friends elsewhere. My Friends Names, Hamilton ,Jackson ,Franklin.

In long term ownership extended warranty may return investment, In short term ownership Not likely to return any cost. Its personal choice on the risk VS cost.

Sometimes, at least in my case, (when the dealer told me it was $3500 or so I just looked at the guy and smiled. We both knew that the price was padded.) it is something you do if you want to have a better relationship with your dealer.

My dealer is a small town local shop with well respected staff and owner. I had the opportunity to buy elsewhere, but came back and ordered from them because I live here, and I will get my vehicle serviced here. I gave them the 'opportumity' to sell me a warranty, but not rip me off quoting retail pricing...that would be like paying sticker for the Cherokee.

If you want to rely on the dealer for everything Max Care is the way to go. If you have a deer total your Jeep you get refunded part of the purchase price. To me this makes Jeeps offer pretty attractive. However as I hit my one year anniversary with not one issue I decided to just continue with the original warranty. I bought this Jeep with very few bells and whistles as the WK2 had HVAC blowers that seemed to go out every other year.

I can work on most things with exception to the power train. I guess I have 2 more years to decide if I want to buy any additional power train coverage.

After seeing how much sensors and modules cost on the WK2, even when covered by an extended package I'm hoping my TH will work as designed.

However if not I will invest the capital.

Since my Jeep is financed, if a deer should it and total it and let's say the insurance cheaps out and gives me less than what I owe on it, I have GAP insurance which covers whatever the insurance didn't. Only cost me $100 when purchasing. Might think about getting the basic lifetime warranty though.

Actually I bought the Max Care life from the dealer after he matched the on-line quote I had in hand on my 2014 Limited. Saved me big bucks over their sale price.
Rolled it into the 3 year loan and now I am free and clear. I just consider it a part of the total vehicle cost.
I tend to keep my Jeeps 8+ years and with all the electronics including the complete tech group it works for me. Now its $100 per visit for a repair(s), if and when a repair occurs.
Peace of mind and not waiting for the repair quote is well worth it. By the way this is first time I have purchased one of these plans and only because of all the electronics on this vehicle.

I am with you there....first for me as well. I have never, until this vehicle, felt that a major failure would be out of my budget range factored into time/age of the vehicle (if I could not take care of it myself). All bets are off with the technology and drivetrain in the KL, it is a very expensive date when sitting on the side of the road from what I have seen here in three years...

Is there any limit to this lifetime warranty, or is it really for the life of the car?

In Canada we get screwed on extended warranties. No lifetime, no Mopar, and bad third party ones.

Bought mine for 2580 (recent price increase) it covers a lot of wear items including struts shocks suspension etc. and has already started paying for itself

I worked with Tom from Hayes Jeep amazing to deal with and honest and quick to respond as soon as I saw the charge on my credit card I logged in the account with my vin and it was active email him at tomwinkels@hayescars.com

There will come the day when they can fix it or just give you the street value for you vehicle, their choice. Its not a lifetime fix it for $100 deal, but no doubt will be money well spent IMO.

That's not bad. I might take it if it was available here. The best Canada gets is 7 years--and that's if the Crystler extended warranty is still even available here. Everything else is shady third party. I plan on talking to my dealer when we pick up our KL, but when we did the factory order, there was no talk of any extended warranty.

So many sensors and powered goodies. So many chances of failure. And that's not even considering the drivetrain.

FCA HVAC blowers are pretty much junk. Best to learn how to replace that item yourself. I had the WK2 for 3 Winters and had it replaced twice. $100/per but there are supposed to be some aftermarket options with more reliable bearings that don't get messed up as much by the extreme cold followed by hot Summers.

I think I might be very pissed off if my tranny went out at 8 years and they would only pay out book value as the KL just doesn't hold its value as well as a JK. You will not be buying much with that book money at 8 years.

I hope I can maintain mine a bit longer than 8 years though. I don't put the massive amount of hours and miles on my vehicles any longer since retiring and try to park the KL inside a garage during the heat and Sun of Summer.

Like stated previously, it's a cost/benefit relationship to how much driving time you plan on putting into the KL.

The availability of the lifetime/unlimited warranty was a deciding factor when I purchased my '15 TH. I knew of the tranny issues and wasn't about to take that chance unprotected. I also drive close to 40K miles per year and having put more than 330K on my last car (2007 Altima, purchased new), I have felt the pain of expensive and unexpected repairs.

Oddly, it paid off before I hit 60K miles. I had a coil fail around 58K. Not covered under the factory warranty, but the coil packs are covered under MaxCare, so for a $100 deductible and another $17 to replace the spark plug (a rip-off dealer price, not covered), I had a rental car for two days and a new coil & plug. Saved well over $200 so far. I'm looking forward to making my money back on the warranty over time.

for piece of mind the lifetime warrenty is worth it if you plan to keep the vehicle for a long time, although we payed $2800 for each of our jeeps with the $100 deductible it's nice knowing SHOULD something go wrong we're coverd, especialy with all the electrical crap in the cherokee

Trailhawk

I just purchased the Lifetime/Unlimited Maxcare Warranty for my 2017 Grand Cherokee TrailHawk. Even though the warranty will terminate if and when something breaks and it will cost more than the value of my vehicle, I felt is was a good gamble since there are so many electronic systems in these new vehicles. Plus it is like anything, if you take care of your vehicle the value of the car will be higher for a longer period of time. I researched many options. According to Mopar this warranty MSRP is $3995 (some also charge tax on this amount). DO NOT PAY THAT MUCH!
I found a dealer in Michigan that sells the exact same warranty (Mopar Vehicle Protection) for $2665. He was very helpful and not pushy. Check it out if interested. tomwinkels@hayescars.com

extended warranty on Jeep Cherokee

My dealer was able to lower the price on the life time warranty from 3500.00 to 2600.00 in 2017. It also is prorated. I totaled my vehcile this month and I am getting most of my money back. Or I can transfer the refund to another jeep if i choose to purchase one.
