CommandView® Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof making noise!

Hello everyone,

I recently got a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Limited with CommandView® Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof.

For some reason - I keep hearing noise when the sunroof is CLOSED. Doesn't matter if the shade is open or not - makes a noise like something is loose/rattling from time to time (it is not coming from the sun glass storage). So I originally thought the shade was the root of the problem because it was not properly secured. However, the noise stops ONLY if the sunroof is lifted / open.

Is anyone having this problem? I just bought this car in January 2017. I took it to the dealer, and they tell me that they don't hear anything... I hear this every time I go over bumps, turn, uneven roads, etc. It's to a point where the passengers in the car are asking me what that noise is!

I'm assuming because it is a PANORAMIC sunroof - that due to changes in the pressures of all four tires - when it drives over uneven surfaces the frame of the car is "moving" - hence, making the noise from the sunroof. However, the noise is a bit frequent/severe that it is very annoying...

Please advise! Any help will be greatly appreciated!~ Or even how to tell the dealer that I need this fixed ASAP! It's driving me insane

Are you in an area where only one dealer is nearby? If you have other dealers in your area, go to a different one.

Hi dogcherry!

There is a STAR case, S1523000016, that covers the exact issue you're describing. Please pass it on to your dealership, or send a private message with your VIN and I can reach out on your behalf.

Lots of threads on this.

Sunroof rattle?...

Sunroof Rattle...
Anybody figure out the roof rattle yet?

The consensus is that you should use a safe lubricant to grease the seals when rattling starts. It goes away for 4 to 6 months.

Alternatively I took mine to the dealer and they took the front piece off, greased it and re-seated it. We'll see how long it'll take before the rattling comes back (it's starting).

I'm hoping that since my High Altitude was literally just built a few days ago that this will not be an issue. Haven't received it yet, but I pushed hard with the wife for the sunroof. Hope I don't get a told you so.

There is a roll of $200 tape that is used for the TSB concerning the rear seat squeak. This tape can be used to stop the sun roof from banging in the closed position. It is more noticeable in extremely low temperatures, but the tape works. Tech used it on my sunroof as he was searching for the elusive squeak.

I remember when GM released the panoramic roof in their G6 and a few other vehicles around 2006 for a couple years. Seemed great at the time but as they aged they would begin to rattle, leak, and and cause all sorts of problems until they no longer offered it because they couldn't keep up with the problems. I'm not too sure how the design has changed (I know GM didn't make these panoramic roofs, they were built and supplied from a 3rd party), so it'd be interesting to see where Chrysler gets theirs from. Google G6 panoramic roof (you can let google auto-fill because its a commonly searched topic) and be wow'd by all the problems. I don't mean to bash these pano-roofs, I just hope Chrysler owners don't have a repeat of what GM went through.

Edit: So after looking into it some more, I now realize Chryslers panoramic roof consists of 2 glass panes, where as GM's version is a 3 pane roof, so it is clear they are different in this sense.
