Hmmm, I don't agree that folks don't want FWD. In Florida, for instance, there isn't a whole lot of need for 4WD or AWD unless you're going to drive on the beach or through the swamps. Weather isn't an issue. Dealerships in Florida have lots of FWD on their lots -- just not V6s with towing packages, which brings me back to my original query.

As a side note, I must say that the perception some people have on this board that FWD Cherokees aren't worthy of the Jeep badge is just silly. It's a great vehicle in any configuration. The fact that it can be equipped in so many ways is one of its strengths. It's just that some people don't need or want the extra weight and mechanical of AWD. Plus, all Cherokees are in FWD 90 percent of the time or more anyway. If you feel good about paying for something extra like AWD, even if you rarely use it, fine. Having that capability might come in handy depending on where you live or what you do with the vehicle. But for other folks, it's just not needed -- and this is coming from someone who owned old 4WD Cherokees and a Liberty.

Tow is available in most configurations.
Actually what is at dealers can be problematic depending on the size of the dealer. Even then the stock can be biased to 4WD and non Tow equipped vehicles.
I have seen inventories loaded with FWD early on. That is when I purchased in 12/13.
In fact my issue was that Tow equipped Cherokees were not all that common in any configuration. I landed up Factory ordering because of that problem.
Also I wanted AD2 and that added combination was next to impossible to find on a lot with Tow.
I think there is still the bias out there that you need rear wheel drive for towing. That may be true on upper end towing but not for what most of us would do.

I think your problem is the specific combination of FWD only and Tow together. I think also just finding a Cherokee with tow alone can be an issue depending on the dealer network and area.
Makes no difference if its FWD or 4WD as the Cherokee will spend most of its towing time in FWD by default. Mine spends most of its time towing FWD and its just fine.

If you do not want 4WD and the added cost then you might want to factory order it. But depending on the cost work up you might actually come out a head buying one off a lot. I would suggest searching up to 300 miles and include a large urban area with your parameters. If you find one you can go to the dealers web site and poke them for more information. Actually in most cases you can work the deal right over the phone and lock it in. Then your only issue is getting to that dealer. If you have a trade in you can price out the value using that dealers ZIP code and a source like KBB.
Good Luck..............

My dealer searched all across Canada for the exact KL we wanted, but in the end we had to do a factory order. Now it's built and waiting to be delivered to us in a few weeks. As others have said, ordering it may be your best bet if you can't find exactly what you're looking for.

I agree with you that if there's no reason to go with the AWD you might was well save on money, fuel economy and weight. There's no reason to buy something you're not going to use.

Good luck!

We can agree to disagree. I think a Jeep Cherokee without AWD is like a Dodge Challenger without a V8.

I'd rather have AWD and not need it than need AWD and not have it.

I believe this topic is about the Trailer Tow Group on FWD Cherokees, not about your (or anyone else's) opinion on AWD vs FWD Cherokees. I'm pretty sure they are other topics better suited to this... opinion sharing stuff.

My opinions about AWD go back to the OP stating he was having trouble finding any FWD Cherokees in his area. I say it is due to no customer demand for them.

OP did not ask for opinions, especially not the *why would anyone want to spend money on*... on what they have already purchased for reasons you don't agree with (??)

There is a fine line between expressing a constructive opinion that may help someone else and barely disguised criticism on someone's buying decisions. You are way across that line.

Would not Thoughts include opinions? His opinion was not critical or disguised it was just his View That's it...When views are different why attach Negatives to it, to the point of suppression.

The OP stated his view on *why would anyone spend $ on *MClat handle it fair and just IMO.

Is not the Jeep Popular for its off road history, it would Seem odd to have Tow and only FWD , MCLat was looking for something that's not popular that's why finding one local with the option He wants is rare, It's still what he wants and BC he's paying for it his decision is final and I and won't rob him of that decision base on it different then mine.

According to Jeep.com : yes. Is it a popular combo ? Highly likely not.

How would you like to start a topic here asking a specific question, then have a member question your buying decisions instead of answering the original question ? How is that contributing to the topic, or even helpful to the OP ? I'll spell it out for you : it was out of line and rude.

Who spoke of suppression ? You did.

Hello and welcome to the forum. As someone who has purchased two of these vehicles now and had to ship my second one in I will say this, go to jeep.com and build the jeep with the specs YOU want. When finished it'll give you the option to search nationwide inventory based on the options you selected. If you find something you like you can either do business with that dealer directly while being hundreds or even thousands of miles away and when the deal is complete they can ship it to you but then you are buying a vehicle site unseen. Your other option is to take the vin number of the vehicle you find and the lot number etc to your local jeep dealer and see if they will negotiate with that dealer have them do a trade of vehicles. You of course will likely have to pay shipping either way of the vehicle but it likely wouldn't be more than 500$ or so.

The v6 in a sport isn't a popular choice much less the fwd v6 sport with tow package. Most people at least equip the v6 with the AD1 awd package which from a towing and safety stand point would only help. But in the end the choice is yours of course. Best of luck to you on your endeavors to find the Cherokee you desire.
