Sunroof Noise - Annoying

I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk that i purchased new about 10 months ago.
Great vehicle other than the noise that the sunroof makes!
The noise only happens when the sunroof is closed, but it's so annoying.
I have had the jeep into the dealer twice already and have had no success with an actual fix.

Here is a video i made of the noise.

I have also attached a part of my last dealer invoice.

Does anyone else have this problem, and have you had a successful fix?

Brutal that there is no recall on this, considering the sunroof is a $1600 option....

Thanks,

-Stu

I have had a couple of KLs with the sunroof but I never opened them but to test them before I bought the vehicle so never had any squeaks. My current TH does not have the sunroof as I preferred to put that money toward the Safety Tech Group and the memory ventilated seats. Everybody has their own preferences and the sunroof probably does help with resale and you may have all the options, but to me I like metal over my head just in case something should happen where it is on the ground--hope it never happens. But to answer your question, the dealer should be able to correct the noise coming from the sunroof or you might go to another dealer and see if that dealer can be more of a help about your concern.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried Ontario Chrysler, which is in Mississauga, On so far. I should probably look into a different nearby dealership that hopefully has experience with fixing this problem.

Mine made the same noise. There is a $200 roll of tape used to eliminate the squeak in the TSB for the rear seat. Tech put some on the sun roof, and noise is gone!

Many, including myself, have found that lubricating the rubber seals will stop the noise as it seems to be the rubber rubbing together or on the roof that makes the noise in many cases.

Ok, be ready for sunroof ****. I have a 2014 KL, with the sunroof. Mine started making the same noise about 18 months in. First, they lubricated it and that helped for a while. Then it came back, and I lubricated it, and that helped for a while. When it came back yet again, they replaced the entire glass and the track, and that actually helped for a few months. But it came back. They eventually had to remove the entire headliner and replaced the whole frame, and that seems to have done the trick. But that took a month, because they had problems putting it all together, had to replace the shade that got destroyed in the process, and lost the baffles that cover the front track mechanism. I love the car, but I am considering foregoing the sunroof in my next Cherokee or any other car.

So glad i went no sunroof after hearing all these issues.
My first ride without, but honestly don't miss it.

Thanks for all the reply's.

Had it in the dealer again the other day. They lubricated and referenced S1523000016 again.

on top of that they ordered sunroof glass seals, and per procedure 3 in star case S1523000016.

The parts should be in next week, but since they lubricated I have not noticed any noise. I guess I will have to wait and see how this lubricant holds up, and I will update after the parts come in and get installed.

Thanks again everyone, and I hope that my info is useful to anyone else that has these issues. Lets only hope it can be permanently fixed...

I have the exact same noise on my 2015 Limited. It started happening weeks after purchasing the vehicle new. I've brought it into the dealer 6 times now, also called Jeep directly to have them work with the dealer a couple of those times. Still not fixed. It never will be. I'm so upset about it!

Every time I've brought it in they say it's fixed. Drive off the lot and it's still making noise. Each time they keep the Jeep for 3 days. Such a huge hassle. I'm so glad I DID NOT purchase the extended warranty. It would have been a worthless purchase.

The dealership and Jeep have 100% lost me as a customer because of this. Paid $1,500 extra for something that is super annoying and they can not (most likely will not) fix it. Had the Jeep for almost two years now, and that noise is the first thing people notice when I give them a ride in it. Pathetic. This will certainly affect the resale value when it comes time to sell.

Watching the video, this is my exact noise! At first (a 6 months ago) lubricating the rubber seals would work for a while but became less and less effective. I've even switched to some super thick tire shine gel hoping the treatment would last longer. Currently lubing no longer does anything anymore. Yesterday I took off the passenger side accordion looking rubber piece and checked the tightness of the 2 screws behind it along with others that were visible towards the rear of the sunroof. No help.

I'm trying any home remedy because I dread taking it to the dealer since the last time I took it in (unrelated issue) they kept it for 2 weeks. I know they will either say they couldn't hear the squeak or give it back saying they lubed the seals. My wife just said last night she should have gotten the Evoque like she wanted in the first place.

(To add to the frustration, my windshield squeak is back where before I had removed the entire front cowling and wipers trying to track it down. The squeak is coming from the base of the windshield glass where it fits into the plastic channel. I fixed it previously by folding over a tiny piece of black electrical tape and shoving it between the glass and the plastic. May be time to a new piece in there.)
