Check Engine

Hey everyone, I went to drive my 2015 Cherokee latitude to check out a place yesterday and everything was fine. I got back in afterwards to drive to work and my check engine light came on. I've checked the gas cap, oil, and there's nothing different, at least not that I can notice when I drove it to work and back. It only has around 31,000 miles on it. I'm really wracking my head trying to figure it out but I'm not sure. Any suggestions are really appreciated. Thanks!

Hey there Ashley, and welcome to the forum !

Yeah, it's kind of practical to have your own (cheap) OBDII scan tool, to retrieve check engine codes. Ask your friends/family, maybe someone already has one and you could borrow it... or, as Pete suggested, go to Autozone to have it scanned for free (it takes only a minute).

Here's a tool many use. For Android phones :https://www.amazon.com/Foseal-Blueto...rds=obd2+gauge
For iPhones : https://www.amazon.com/Foseal-Blueto...2%2Bgauge&th=1

All you need with those is a free app, plug this into your OBDII port under the dash, easily accessible, and follow instructions provided. Once you have a code, you can check online to determine what it means.

If you need any help/guidance, don't hesitate to ask

Did you see the posts above? Did you scan using a cheap OBD II scanner and do you know what the codes are? If it showed up immediately after you picked it up and has stayed on, drive it right back to them. My guess is they forgot to reconnect something.

If you just picked it up from the dealer, yes bring it back. They should of cleared it before they gave it back to you, or as above, they forgot to hook something back up.

as said above you need fault code. also loose gas cap is a message on cherokee so that leaves that out.

Agreed, get a cheap ODBII reader, if you have an iPhone or Android, get a bluetooth version and then with a program you can read the codes on your phone.

I got one of those ODBII readers when my Cherokee (2015) threw a "Service Transmission" with a check engine light.
A turn off for a few minutes and back on will usually clear the Service Transmission right away. Then when the check engine light goes out, then when I read the codes, I get a consistent P0934.
Dealer "fixed" it once, but then it came back.
Hopefully you don't have the same code.
