Wanting to add Dual climate control. Help and advice needed

Hello foks!

Quick back story.....
Settled for a basic 4cyl TH. Thought about trading it in a week after getting it but just too much hassle and money. I've learned to live with it as is and even adapted to the slow throttle response of the 4 banger.

I've read that adding a keyless proximity entry would be big time $$$$, I started contemplating on adding a dual climate control that could be activated by voice command in uconnect.

I've seen control modules and faceplates for these on ebay.

What say you gurus of the KL? Is it even worth it?
Are the faceplate and ECM control module the only parts I need? What about uconnect controls and how could I get that integrated if possible?

TIA

I'm not sure that would be possible. The dual controls are controlled via the 8.4 uconnect.

Anything is possible with enough money.
Most likely it would be cheaper to just take the hit on the trade in and upgrade to what you want.
You are correct though its big$$$ loss on trade. But also the higher cost on a new purchase of extra options. So its a double hit.
Now in my opinion all the electronics are interrelated on this Cherokee. Not sure, but the computers, sub systems, and u-connect all have to be registered to the VIN# of the Cherokee in order to work correctly??
If true then a trip to the dealer would be needed to update all the software.
I forgot, but there was a member that literately built a KL from 2 salvaged KLs. You might do a search or maybe someone can remember the name.
I think he would be very familiar with these systems.
Good luck and you might actually be able to so it. Salvage yards have been a good source for members on projects like the u-connect screen.

The HVAC module is completely different. You would need to pull the entire dash apart and replace the module. Then you would have to deal with the controls for it.

For what it's worth, I've found that the climate control system in my KL (2015 TH) absolutely sucks. It's damned near uncontrollable. Incredibly slow to respond. Not at all predictable re: actual temp vs. indicated temp.

The dual-zone climate control system in my previous Nissan Altima worked perfectly. Set the temp, let it do its thing, and in a few minutes, the air would be right where you wanted it with an easily discernible difference between the driver and passenger sides.

In this thing, not so much. The only way to get the temp where I want it is to adjust by one degree at a time (maybe two if I'm feeling particularly bold) and wait at least five minutes (no joke) before evaluating whether further adjustment is needed.

It's easily one of my single biggest complaints about the KL, and I certainly wouldn't spend money trying add dual-zone climate control for that reason.

I'll second that emotion. The part I like the most about the climate control is when it's in the 50s or 60s outside and the temp for both driver and passenger are set at 73 degrees and then about 20 minutes into the ride the darn thing turns the cabin into a refrigerator. Have to whack it in the head by turning it up to 80+ degrees, then throttle it down to around 76 or 77. Glad it has control of the climate, because we sure don't.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen!

Len... I do have the 8.4 uconnect

Rob... I think I should be ok with that. I just realized that I don't have auto temp in the system, so setting it to a certainntemp like 70* and wait a couple minutes but as long as the HVAC titrates itself.

Jeepster... I'm crossing fingers that I could.

I've been trying to search and read threads that relates to uconnect and anything about the HVAC.

Here's what I'm thinking....
If I could get the temp ecm module and the fascia controls on ebay or salvage yards for under $200 then I would be ok experimenting with it.
Figured that after install I could then drive to the dealer and have it flashed to include the climate uconnect controls. Wonder how much the dealer would charge for reflashing though.

Again thanks again for the replies and if anyone has anymore input, please keep it coming. Even if it's just an opinion. I have to look at this experimenting at all possible angles.

Dual zone is more than just 8.4 screen. You need a new HVAC housing. Dual zone has 2 temp doors[that is how you get dual zone] the motors to control the doors, the wiring harness for said motors. There is no way I would tear apart my dash to install dual zone in the hopes that it MAY work. My last 3 vehicles have had dual zone. I don't think it is that big of a deal. Certainly not a deal breaker if it didn't come with it. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I think you may think dual zone is something awesome, but really it is not.

I agree, my last car (2005 Volvo S60) and my Cherokee both have dual zone. It never seems to be any different on one side or the other. My wife turns her side down and colder air comes out of my side as well. Same in both cars. I think it's just a gimmick, myself.

I believe another member on here just recently attempted this and failed. There are so many modules and sensors needed and getting them all to work would be nearly an impossibility. It's not nearly as simple as throwing the dual climate module in.

Never have been impressed with the KL Climate Control at all. Compared to the Durango, GC, Charger, it's way too slow to respond. I was quite happy driving a new Renegade with a good old fashioned Temp control. Less distraction while driving, quick to respond and no pounding on the screen.

Awesome infos fellas. I guess that is all I need to see this in a sensible way. Motors, doors, housing and harness is a lot to take on and definitely not worth my time.

My big confession is that I travel a lot for work and rent cars when out of town. I always try to get a KL as a rental and had a limited a couple times. I was so fascinated when I first tried voice command to "set driver temperature to 70*" and did it. That's what started all this tinkering. Petty, I know but really really cool[emoji5][emoji851] My parents S55 didn't even have that feature.

Anyways big thanks to everyone for bringing me back to reality.[emoji106][emoji106]
