Rear ended another Cherokee :(

Hey guys,
So long story short, I rear ended another Cherokee (I think it was limited) with my TH yesterday... I was going around 20 or 30 maybe...anyway...my TH seems to be okay...some scratches on the license plate... but her rear bumper got a little dent and poke right under where the back license plate goes.
She is super cool girl...(no surprise if she bought a Cherokee ;p )...but I'm wondering if she should replace the bumper or is there anything they can do??
If it needs to be replaced how much would it cost? Parts + labour.....could I do it myself if she lets me?? Buy the parts online and get to work??
Is it realistic??

Guys...any help is appreciated... )

Honestly, I think you should just let insurance take its course. Not filing claims has a way of coming back and biting people, later. If you two were good friends and it was on the trail, that would be a different story. Plus, the cost is going to be pretty large out of pocket when it comes down to bumper, shipping, painting. My two cents.

20 or 30???? Wow I rear ended a crappy little Suzuki at 5 to 6 mph and the repairs to my TH was $4200!!!!!
Not a mark on my Bumper, the hood took all the damage, plus cracked eyebrow ligh, kinked fender the horn bracket bent and punctured the tranny oil cooler! It goes on and on, saw all the photo's of repair it's all legit and not sure if the speed was even 6 mpg?? The Suzuki had a rear tire mount and his lift gate ended up in his cargo area! His tire caused all my damage! At 20 to 30 with my experience I would expect a total! You are soooo lucky! The coast of the "new" Alum. hood alone was $774, no labor!!!

Go Jeep!!! I think???

With you being the one to be in the rear I would let insurance pay out even if your rates get dinged. People can suddenly get a case of the neck and or back pain down the road and while it may never materialize you just want that layer of insulation on your side.

Just my $0.02, living in an over litigated New York State.

Wow!!! Some great points raised here! Hmmm never even thought about what would happen if she end up having "back pain" or trauma down the road....

Does the bumper really need to be painted btw??? Arnt they all same color??

Wow hope my insurance don't go through the roof ://

I work in a body shop and can tell you two things for certain: 1.) You do NOT want to handle this out of pocket. Not going through insurance 9 times out of 10 will come back to bite you. And 2.) If you hit her going 30 mph, there's definitely going to be more damage than just a dent and poke (absorber, impact bar, reinforcement, etc)

My suggestion is make a claim and have an adjuster, or body shop estimator look it over and determine the severity.

Basically its called hidden damage that is very possible. Both your Hawk and the other Cherokee.
Again Insurance Companies HATE latent claims as it does not give them time to cover your interests ant theirs.

My wife, several years ago in a parking lot just backed into a vehicle and the lady said it was nothing and basically it wasn't, so I rubbed it down and you couldn't tell it. Then she wanted 200 dollars claiming about 4 or 5 other spots was the result of my wife backing into her. I gave her the 200 dollars and made her sign a paper that said that closed any further claims on it. Well, I never heard anymore, but I probably could have had problems as my paper I had her sign was not probably legal anyhow. But I didn't hear anymore from her and that was probably over 20 years ago, but it sounds like yours is probably going to have to go through insurance.
