Rear View Mirror Mount (Black Plastic)

I've searched the forum for about an hour but could not find what I was looking for. I apologize if this has been covered.

Aside from covering what I would assume is the bracket that holds the RV mirror to the windshield, does anyone know what is behind this black piece of plastic? I am looking for a good place to install an IPASS/EZPASS transponder and the front part of this black plastic piece looks ideal.

I have my Illinois iPass stored in the flip up storage container in the center of the dash. Completely out of sight and works each and every time.

off hand, the humidity sensor for the automatic climate controls is stored in there, also the camera for the auto high beams is in there, both if equipped. if you don't have either of those...then i have no idea what else is in there.

I mounted my ezpass on the "tinted" part behind the mirror.. tucked almost up to the headliner.

FYI: Humidity sensor is that little bubble in the center of the dash. It is also the light sensor for the auto headlights. It has one more function, but I don't recall what it is. Much discussion about this on the Journey Forum, as many members wanted to add auto headlights.

Also, if you have rain sensing wipers, there is a little hole in the front to "see" the rain drops!

Nope, it's right where i said it was

FYI, i also ran a Journey to see where the humidity sensor is, and it's in the same place, as it is in my Charger. Across the board, behind the rear view mirror seems to be the standard for this specific sensor with Chrysler, at least on the few cars i ran it on. it seems the discussion on the Journey forum needs to be revised
EDIT: As a side note, at least on the Cherokee, that "bubble" on the dash is strictly a sunlight sensor for the automatic climate controls and the automatic headlight functions.

This. Mine is barely visible, even from the driver's seat.

This is weird. Why would Dodge use the bubble and Jeep use the mirror bracket? Do all Cherokees have this huge black thing behind the mirror? My 2006 Commander had one for the rain sensing wipers. My 2014 Journey had a standard skinny mirror mount, my mirror contained the Uconnect microphone and the bubble was the humidity sensor for the auto AC. Maybe it was changed after 2014, because it works better at the top of the windshield than the bottom.

Thanks for all the responses.

I have a feeling there is a lot of confusion in my inquiry. I think the humidity sensor is a 2" x 2" x 1/2" pad that is mounted ON the windshield and on the KL to the right of the plastic thing I was asking about. That I believe is part of Auto A/C. I also think this part I am inquiring about usually contains the camera for the Auto High Beam (which I do not have, so I do not have a camera). I am just curious if there is another item contained inside that big black plastic. This cannot contain the humidity sensor since it is not touching the windshield at all.

Anyway, I think I am convinced there is nothing inside it but just a cover for the bracket attaching the RV mirror to the windshield. I was just curious if there was some sort of an antenna that I may be disturbing if I mount my IPASS in front of it.

Being from MI I very seldom use my IPASS so I never tried to use it inside that cubby hole. Nice to know. Thanks.
