2015 Jeep Cherokee Roof Rack Rails

I just purchased a YAKIMA ROOF RACK SYSTEM including the TIMBERLINE TOWERS and AERO CROSS BARS. I am a Retired Engineer with 45 years experience so installation is a no brainer.
However, after completing the installation I see that all four corners of the roof around each top rail base is warped down. Has anyone ever heard of the top rails of a Jeep Cherokee coming off as in PULLED OUT OF THE ROOF!? I was very surprised to see how soft the roof metal is and how easily it flexes. As I am going on a trip tomorrow I guess I will find out if this is an issue or not . . . .

Any feedback on the factory roof rack rails would be greatly appreciated . . . .

I have the same bars and towers and there's no warping that I've been able to notice.

I've carried two kayaks on it many times and taken a road trip halfway across the us and back with a loaded roof basket attached to the bars with no issues.

You could try tightening the roof rails. It's done pretty easily. I felt the Yakima roof rack system put too much twist on the rails.

Hi there !

I have a couple questions, if you don't mind... :
- Did you buy the 2015 KL new ?
- Did you have another roof rack system up there before ?

Just FYI : we've seen this warping from a few members on the forum before, but they (all I think) had Thule Aeroblades. The Aeroblade system is incompatible with the trapezoid roof rails on the KL and they twist them... The Timberline foot pack put force directly on top of the rails, which shouldn't cause any torsion on the rails/anchors.

Original Factory Roof Racks that came with the 2015 Cherokee from JEEP.

The TWISTING is exactly what appears to be happening - While the Bottom of the TIMBERLINE TOWERS ride flat on top of the ROOF RACKS when I tighten the straps that go UNDER THE ROOF RACK they are twisting inward and this is what is putting the pressure on the roof top. As you said the shape of the Factory Racks is not the best and I have asked myself repeatedly why CHRYSLER/JEEP did not install the RACKS WITH CROSS BARS already installed like they used to... The entire YAKIMA system is solid and I did a test run up the Interstate and back doing 75mph and other than a bit of wind noise there were no vibrations or movement of the YAKIMA SKYBOX 16 at all. Good to know that the THULE TOWERS and BARS would not be a good option.

Also appreciate all the fast responses as this system will get put to good use in the near future . . .
