Much Improved Shifting in 2017

I traded in my 2015 fairly loaded Latitude (4cyl) for a 2017 V6 Sport (with Altitude and tow packages). Even though I gave up some of the bells and whistles I had in my Latitude, I am very happy with the Sport because it shifts much better than my Tigershark ever did. I never had a serious failure of my old transmission or recall or anything like that, but didn't want to continue to push my luck. Whatever Jeep has done to improve the shifting in the 2017 seems to have worked wonders. This V6 is silky smooth and the extra power is nice, of course. Does anyone know what exactly Jeep did to improve the shifting on the 2017s? Do you think the much improved shifting over my old Tigershark is due to the V6, improved software or something mechanical in the actual trans? Or maybe all three?

I would think that the changes you are seeing with your 2017 is because you are now driving a six.
My 2014 v6 always shifted great and likewise my 2017 shifts great also.

I'm very impressed at how smooth the 6 shifts. Out of all the ones that friends have we haven't had any issues.

I have never had a 4 cylinder, but have had at least one of every year since the KL came out, and the 2017s are much better than the 14 and some better than the 15, but the 16 and now my 17s shift so smooth I don't think about it and just put the pedal down and take off as fast or as slow as I want too and haven't had any transmission problems so far and the shifting is very smooth.

You buy a new Cherokee every year? Must be nice! I LOVE my 2014 but feel like I'm driving on borrowed time (even though I've barely owned it for a year). Would love to trade it on a '17 at some point, but can't afford that kind of extravagance. I'm jelly!

My 15' Trailhawk had tranny failure at 6000 miles. Shifted badly a lot. My 17' Trailhawk shifts way better. Not perfect, but SO much better. I also have a 17' Compass Traihawk with the 2.4L and it shifts perfectly.

Well, I am done for awhile now I think. My 2015 Latitude with 1700 miles had a transmission failure and I was awarded a buy back on that one. Both of my 2017s are shifting great and don't think about it at all and just hope they keep it up for many years now. "Must be nice! " My wife doesn't think its "nice". And she is beginning to think she is the "boss" but my billfold is getting thin anyhow.

Your '17 Compass shifts perfectly? I've had two Cherokees with three transmissions and shifting continues to be a problem. Everything from 0 - 30 mph is hit and miss, but over 30 mph it shifts fine. My problem is that I do a lot of city driving the erratic 0-30 is a problem.

I've been very interested in the new Compass, but afraid of having the same transmission problems. How does the 2.4L work?
