One feature I really like on my Limited is the remote car starter. I live in Ontario and its really nice being able to start my car from inside my house and have the seats and steering wheel nice and warm waiting for me (especially with this -15 degree weather we are having). I'm noticing though that the rear defrost is on as well when I get into my car. Is this normal? I can't seem figure out how to not have it come on automatically along with the seats and steering wheel when I start my car from inside my house....
Reason being is that for example this morning, there was no frost or anything on the any of my Jeeps windows. I heard you can damage the rear defroster if you have it on when there is no frost/ice on the window?
I have a 2015 jeep cherokee sport, in st. louis, Missouri, and I would like to install a remote car starter. That is possible ???
Some body help me please. Thank you.
I've looked into installing a remote start system in a vehicle, but it seems like a very involved process with a lot of technical experience required.
My mom wants a remote start installed in her 2005 Nissan Frontier. Everything I can find says to have a professional shop install it. I can only imagine it would be a lot more involved to instance in a vehicle as technical as ours.
While it is very likely possible; it is probably a very good idea to have a professional shop do it!
I've installed dozens of remote starters in older vehicles. But I won't touch anything newer than say 2008. It's too difficult to get around all the security and computer features. That being said, there are shops that will do it, but it will cost you. Getting to know the Cherokee very well over the past year, I would have to think it's a very involved process.
yup my 2014 Limited as well. I believe that kicks in the heated side mirrors & front windshield wiper elements as well. I don't warm mine up remotely more than 10 minutes & I just turn off the rear when I get in if I don't need it. I think it turns off by itself after a while. or maybe it's the front that turns off by itself. the button you have to manually turn on next to the rear button
Both our TH's with remote starters when below 30 degrees start with heated seat (driver's side only) side mirrors and rear defroster. It does not however turn on the optional front window/wiper defrost. Seems very strange or did I miss checking a box on screen somewhere?

Owner's manual says it should turn on. Don't know if there is a separate Uconnect control for the wiper de-icer but I would think not....
NOTE: The Remote Start Comfort System can be activated
and deactivated through the Uconnect® SETTINGS.
For more information on Remote Start Comfort
System operation, refer to “Uconnect® Settings” in “Understanding
Your Instrument Panel.”
Remote Start Windshield Wiper De–Icer
Activation — If Equipped
When Remote Start is active and the outside ambient
temperature is less than 33° F (.5° C), the Windshield
Wiper De-Icer will be enabled. Exiting Remote Start will
resume previous operation, except if the Windshield
Wiper De-Icer is active. The Windshield Wiper De-Icer
timer and operation will continue.
Mine seems to be doing the same (turning on rear window heater, but not front) on remote starts recently. I have not remembered to watch each and every time, so can't swear by it though. Just seems like many times the windshield/wiper heater is not on.
The only way I know mine works is the same way I know the mirror heaters are working : when stuff is melting. If you don't have *stuff to melt* where the element warms the surface (snow or ice), then there's no quick way to verify the heat is On.
On ours, the icon on the touch screen 1/2 of it turns slightly different background, like greyed out when you tap it to turn on windshield or rear electric heaters.
