Our Subaru had a Nav system that always required you to acknowledge its presence by pushing a virtual button on a safety screen before it would work. After a while, it just became automatic to push the %#$@ thing every time you started the car.

I expect the same thing would happen with the ESS disable button if you really want it off all the time. (I imaging this will happen to me. And I'll also learn to switch to Sport mode if the car defaults to Auto every time.) HPH

Edit: Oh, yeah, there's also the Hill Start Assist, if that defaults to on. Sheesh.

Exactly as MooseMax and pksurfish say. Haven't had my Limited a week yet so no idea of impact on fuel savings.

You can permanently turn off hill assist through Uconnect.

Every time I pull up to one of those two and a half minutes stop lights, I am reminded that there are '15 Cherokee owners out there who have a cool feature that I don't have to. That annoys me!

It would be easy to program a permanent OFF but in that case the EPA wouldn't take into account the ESS fuel savings, so don't expect a permanent hard OFF switch anytime soon.

I have a 2014 Cherokee so can't really comment on the ESS system in the 2015s, but I had this on my former cars and after a while you get used to it and don't think about it anymore. ESS are well proven so I can't imagine this being a problem on the Cherokee.

Mind you if the discussions on JCC shift from transmission to ESS, I am all for it!

Oh, good. The manual is a bit vague, but I'll futz around with the system until I figure it out. Thanks, HPH

It's disappointing that Jeep is putting this in the V6 Trailhawk. I can see why it is making the change, but when I'm off-roading and want to pause for a minute to determine my path or stop to let someone out to spot, I don't want my engine shutting down!! (yes I know I can turn off the feature each time I go driving...)

At this rate, V6 Cherokees will be a thing of the past. Next thing we'll see is only I4's.

ESS might make sense in Europe where gas prices are high and driving is mainly city, but I'd much prefer to keep my engine running and maybe spend an extra 5 gallons of fuel per year.

No thanks ESS. I've tried you before, but you don't belong on a V6 Trailhawk. Good luck to those who can find a '14 V6 TH!

You can always turn it off if you're off-roading and get lost. But that's probably not your most serious problem. :-)

Why? I really don't see why this would be a problem in this situation. The motor is running again before your foot gets to the throttle.

Thanks for the responses of those that own Cherokee's with ESS!
