I think that if I get hit hard enough from behind to push me 10 - 20 feet in any direction that I have bigger problems lol

I've only driven 2000 miles with my 2017 Latitude but I really dislike the ESS. If I drove a lot of stop and go city driving with long lights it might be worth it but in my case ESS is simply an annoyance and I really wish I could permanently disable it. There is no good reason for the engine to shut down for the very few minutes I wait at traffic lights and stop signs each day. I disable ESS every time I start the engine and curse every time I forget to and it engages. I also wonder how long the starter motor will last with ESS and how much it costs to replace it? My 2 cents.

2017 granite crystal Latitude ADII, 3.2, Uconnect 5.0 with 9 speakers, cold weather, safety and convenience, more to come.

I got the lifetime mopar warranty since I plan to keep this TH for a very long time, so not a concern for me but if it ever happens I'll update this thread. For now, after direct experience with ESS, it is not as big an annoyance as I initially thought.

Covered under your powertrain warranty. FWIW, the starter, battery, and flywheel gearing are beefed up plus other electrical enhancements and uses special clutch in trans for ESS.

Thanks for the heads up. Guess it stands to reason, like other attachments like alternator, etc.

Makes that Mopar Max Care Warranty even more attractive.

SmartStopStart ESS default memory device now available!

ESS: As this thread demonstrates either you love it, hate it or somewhere in between. Arguments can be made on all sides.

If however you want to set the default in your Cherokee to ESS disable, there is now a plug and play solution. See http://www.smartstopstart.com/

This was developed with the help of several members of this forum who offered their cars as Beta testers. I thank them for their support! There is related discussion also in this thread: '15-'17 Cherokee V6 volunteer with ESS needed in DC metro area

www.SmartStopStart.com 3.2L V6 Engine Stop Start (ESS) the way it should have been designed.

If this is 'flipping some bits'... could the same facility be made available so the wing mirrors auto-fold, instead of pressing that silly button?

No guarantees, but I might add more features in the future. I do not know offhand whether the auto mirror control id feasible or not. My policy though, is free exchange upgrades for 2 years for the cost of shipping if features that you want are added.
