Love the ESS. Took no getting used to as it makes so much sense and is very cool tech.

It has variable cool. It becomes less cool when gas prices are $2/gal and more cool when $5/gal.

I also like the reduced emissions. That happens no matter what the price of fuel is.

I don't really like it (but it came with the Comfort/Convenience group package...so didn't have a choice) and I don't want to turn it off every time I start the engine (which I've been doing). Is there a way to disable it completely (i.e. fuse removal, etc)?
The button on the dash manually disables the ESS system ... so it would seem there must be some way to make that permanent and keep it from reactivating itself when the engine is turned off.

I dislike losing control of personal preferences in a product purchased. Same holds for the dumb seat belt dinger that keeps dinging forever and doesn't shut off after a short time like they used to. BUT, there is a way to kill the dumb dinger with this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-Univers...-/261724545934 and then you have the freedom to choose to connect the seat belt or not!

IF I HAVE TO EXPLAIN IT, YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYWAY

I love the ESS and it was one of the reasons I bought a Cherokee. It makes a noticeable difference in gas mileage when driving in traffic. Plus I like how quiet it is when I stop. When I drive my Challenger R/T and pull up to a light, I think "Hmm, why's the engine still running?", then I remember which car I'm in.

I truly don't understand why some people want to waste gas and not save the money. I've seen some on the forums say that where they drive they don't have to stop much and therefore don't want the ESS. Well, if you don't have to stop much, it shouldn't be bothering you much, either! And as far as wanting 'control' over the vehicle, why aren't you driving a stick shift car?

I have 11,000+ miles on my Cherokee and the ESS has worked extremely well. A very easy learning curve, too.

NOW, how to permanently disable the stupid ESS.

Nothing worse then have to push the darn off button every time you start up or else you get a big jerk when leaving a stop sign/light.

Don't get your hopes up regarding a permanent disable feature. I believe they added ESS as part of the CAFE requirements (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) for better fuel economy.

Sure FCA has the Fiat and Dart, among other small econoboxes, but Jeep's overall don't get very good mileage unless they are using diesel OR ESS.

I got used to it and like it now. Not only for the additional few MPG's but also emissions control. Denver has terrible air pollution :-(
