Service Shifter

So, owned the Trailhawk since July 3rd. Only 1,800 miles. Tonight, started it up and the engine light came on. No issues that I could tell, so just drove to my destination. Upon starting up the vehicle again, a message popped up stating "service shifter" and the entire ride home it stayed in a single gear, not sure what because if I move the lever to the right to see what gear I was in, the display didn't change. Got back home and it wouldn't engage into reverse. It's now in the garage until I can call and make an appointment at the dealership in the morning. Anyone else have this issue?

I just had the same problem. Take it to your dealer, they will probably need to replace your shifter assembly.

Hoping that is all it is. Thanks!

i assume you meant move it to the left to see what gear you are in. if you were already to the left it would stay in a gear. just checking.

Correct. Moving to the left to see what gear I was in the "D" stayed there and didn't indicate the gear.

This morning, the engine light was still on but seemed to work normally again otherwise. It's now at the dealer and I'm waiting to hear what they find.

Won't have any specific details until tomorrow, but being told that there were a bunch of TSB's and software updates to do for the issue. They are testing it now and said I should be able to pick it up tomorrow evening. Again...fingers crossed.

So, a STAR case has been opened on my issue. Picking up a loaner this evening. Does anyone remember the story they did of a news station in Ohio swapping out their fleet of vehicles for new 2014 Jeep Cherokee's? Gotta wonder what kind of problems they have had.

Yes, and that's a very good wonder! They might be reluctant though to do a followup about problems since Toledo is Jeep country.

I remember those too. It was a nice way to get a glimpse inside the factory while the Cherokees moved along the line. Would be interesting if they did a follow-up, like a C&D long term test....

@bradster - Go read my post from yesterday. Sounds very similar to what I had happening - http://jeepcherokeeclub.com/4-2014-2...o-reverse.html

No reverse, no gear shifting, too. Except my read out showed Service Transmission, not Shifter.
