If your story is anything like mine: then yes we're screwed.

Although some members with 2014s have been lucky getting a replacement trans through @JeepCares, they informed me that my 2015 is not eligible and has one of the newer transmissions. Yet mine (and all 2015s) are missing 2nd gear. So yeah, screwed...

Mines a 2014 so maybe there is some hope I can get a new transmission that actually can down shift and not bog my engine down.

So my case manager contacted me just to get the whole summary of the experience. I forgot to mention how when I originally bought the car in 2015 I asked if the transmission update had been applied. The dealer told me they legally couldn't sell me a car with outstanding recalls. So I drove it and it drove fine. After I bought the car I came to find it had not had the recalls performed. They did the recalls and surprise the dreaded 3-2 shift struck. Anyways my case manager is going to talk to the technician which I doubt is going to solve anything. She also asked if I was willing to drop my car off again. I told them yes but I'm not going to take time out of work again to take my car in that they will need to provide me a rental on the weekend. so i'll let you guys know what happens.

Case manager called me back, dealership wants me to bring it in on Monday. So I'm going to drop it off and go from there. I already am certain I will be told its functioning correctly. Wait and see though maybe the jeep gods will smile upon me.

Only if built in 2015. If built in Dec 14 or earlier they had the old transmission.

I haven't really kept up to date on this but , if I recall, there were two *hardware changes* ; one happened after Dec 1 2014 (2015 MY) because that was the cutoff build date listed on the R01 recall. And then it's less clear, but builds from Dec 1 2014 up to May 4, as best as I recall, also had *fragile* hardware, because they lost 2nd gear on downshift after a later concocted flash was rolled out. My 2015 was built after May 4 (barely) and I still have 2nd gear, no flashes pending.
We just don't know (well I don't know..) what the deal is with the hardware from Dec 1 2014 to May 4 2015.

Mine is a January 2015 build and has had no recalls, flashes or anything else with anything to do with transmission. Did have one recall about an air conditioner line that was possibly routed wrong, but mine was fine. It has always had second gear and is the absolutely smoothest transmission I ever saw. It doesn't shift down on its own to second until almost stopped, but if you need it at higher speeds, just apply more pressure with the rght foot and it downshifts to second at slow speeds. Seldom uses first gear though, but hardly ever needs it. Mine seems to have a good handle on what gear it should be in and does whatever required to keep it there.

Now, if I remember correctly there was a TSB issued in 2015 that seemed to address this issue. The cut off date was somewhere in the area of that hardware change.
The ones after that date got the TSB and the ones before that date did not apply. There must have been a brief time when the non updated software for the new hardware equipped ZF was being used in production before the updated matching software was used.
That is returning 2nd gear because the new hardware eliminated the durability issue.
If you actually have the "new" hardware equipped transmission in your Cherokee then 2nd should be a fact. The problem is that if subsequent software was applied because the VIN did not allow the corrected software the system may still be reading your ZF as old hardware equipped. That should not be, of course.
As mentioned I am positive that I had read of a patch for that issue. But again I could be mistaken as this has been a huge drawen out issue.

I also am in that 2nd gear issue with my 12/11/13 build. Actually it is an issue if you are towing.
Now as a side comment I do get 2nd on the down shift if I am in 4WD like Snow mode. I noticed that this winter.
