Last Wednesday my 2014 2.4 Latitude shut down after showing transmission service required . The build date is 10/13 . 30k on the clock .
I live in SoCal and the weather was 108F . Chrysler towing took 3 hours to arrive . By the time they came i was a dehydrated wreck . Every time i called them they lied , eta was 20 minutes , even though i kept explaining i was stranded in the desert without water .
My dealer was fantastic . They are familiar with me as I've had all the recalls , service and warranty work ( trim replacement ) done there . They gave me a 7 day loaner , a 2016 Patriot within 10 minutes of arriving and told me it would be a couple of days before they get to look at my jeep .
In the end they replaced the battery and the senior transmission tech reprogrammed the transmission nodule . They apologized that they had to test drive it for two hours .
you know it's not actually Chrysler towing, right? they just sub out to local towing companies. i'd bash the company that picked you up before thinking ill of Chrysler for just passing through the information they were given. glad your jeep is back on the road.
The business relationship is between the consumer and FCA, though. Not between the consumer and the tow company. If FCA is outsourcing to a sucky company, the suckiness reflects on FCA.
However, depending on where OP was, it's possible the any/every local tow company could have been slow to respond.
There is lesson for everyone here. Pretty similar to driving on isolated roads during a harsh winter, where it is encouraged to bring enough food and water to survive a few hours, even a day if stranded.
Glad to hear you have excellent service at your dealership and hope they fix it up right so you never have to go through that again.
Hmm - I've been in town and had tow trucks take hours to arrive... but as noted, bash them, not the phone operator; take water with you and sit in the shade. If you were a dehydrated wreck after just 3 hours, it sounds like you were pissed off and pacing (not that I'm judging, I might have been too). Anyway glad dealer help was good - but one Q -- if it was the battery, I'm unclear how that would affect with alternator turning (maybe the drain load), and why the tranny module would need reprogramming? A reset to clear codes, sure, but if more than that, I'd question if real root cause has been ID'd yet? Hope they were right and it's trouble free for ya, but it just reads a bit odd.
Roadside Assist is a another company that is contracted. Like all of rest of these programs it is dispatched on a rotation system. I have had vehicles picked up in 1 hour and have found them on my lot the next day after a call. I have asked as a fleet customer for my preferred tow company and was denied.
One of the biggest problems I see is, that after a Tow is completed the Customer is invited to take a survey to rate there experience. Most are to frustrated at this point to complete it.
It's early morning but somehow...
