Yes and Yes. I don't use ERS frequently, but when the condition warrants, I don't hesitate to use it.

The feeling of a clutch slipping in mine is at a slow roll when it stays in 3rd gear and I need to accelerate. I hate that sound and when it happens I either back off and use ERS to kick it down to 2nd or press the gas pedal much further to get it to downshift on its own.

Sport Mode does change the shift pattern.

I got the Mopar lifetime warranty because I plan to keep the Cherokee for 10+ years. That reduces the worry about possible future trans failure.

I have no idea what FCA processes are, including any VIN lists. For example, my transmission got the R01 recall and the consequent shift pattern change, but as far as I know the tranny could be just fine but hamstrung by the software update. Who knows.

Thanks for the info and the opinion. I need to learn how to use the ERS function for starters, I would much rather get better response in Auto than to depend on the Sport mode to do it. Not sure if that can happen, but I can try.

I didn't go for the extended warranty, believing that with the 3/36 I would be ok along with the 5/100 drivetrain warranty. Like you, I don't go through vehicles frequently, in fact, I bought my last Cherokee (a 2000 model) in December, '99 and parted with it when we bought the KL in April, '15.

The bottom line is trying to get my vehicle to drive better and realizing that unless there is a catastrophic failure, the hardware I have now is the hardware I'll always have, so what options do I have remaining at this point.

2016 Jeep Cherokee Altitude - They updated it literally 3 months after I got it. They thought I was making the whole thing up and claim it drives just like every other vehicle. It doesn't happen a lot, but enough where it got annoying.

Edit: What is even more of a bummer is that exact day I brought it to the dealership something flew out of the back of a guys trailer and dinged my rim!

How bad did is the wheel damage?

I used the ERS today for the first time - excluding using 9th gear for extended highway driving previously - and found the throttle response in 3rd gear to be much better than in drive.

In reading the online manual, I didn't see any gear suggestions as far as speed is concerned. Maybe watching engine RPM much like a standard transmission is the best way to go and shift up and down accordingly? Maybe I'm not looking at this the right way.

ERS is intended to set the highest available gear the transmission can use (e.g. trailer towing). Not really designed for manual shifting. However, it comes in handy for folks with a flawed transmission. Anticipating the lag in 3rd and the driver needs 2nd real quick, slap the shifter to the left and push forward once to force the downshift to 2nd. Once accomplished, slap the shifter back to D. (Too bad the FCA programmers aren't smart enough to do this in software!)

My 15 TH got a 17 TH spec trans and PTU when the original trans blew at 33k (like pretty much every 14 or 15 seems to do) and there is absolutely zero difference in driveability between the two.

So today I was making a quick left hand turn before a car (ample time to do it) but the jeep just stalled when I pressed the gas. I swear I am going to get wrecked at some point.

Are they putting those plastic covered wheels on the Cherokee now? From the pic that's what it looks like, but hopefully I'm just seeing it wrong in the pic.
