Tranny issues fixed for latest models?

A red light runner wrecked our 15 TH right after Christmas. After a month, they finally told us that they are totaling our Jeep. We had the tranny replaced at 6000 miles. Since then, another 20,000 miles, besides some quirky shifting, all has been well. We really love the KL, and don't have any real desire to look for something else. I've been searching and reading the site, it seems like the transmission issues have been mostly eliminated in the 16 and 17's?? Just trying to get a feel for the climate on the latest Cherokees. Got my eye on a Cherry TH

Am I missing anything on this subject? I've been reading for hours. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Do you remember what the build date was on the old TH ? From what we're seeing, from 2015s built from May 4 2015 onward, the tranny hardware was changed and is more reliable, or so it seems, Mine was built just after May 4 (2015) and I have 2nd gear on downshift, have had no tranny recalls or flashes (none pending). There was a TSB for shifitng issues on some 2016s IIRC, but none after that, and no failures.

You should probably take a 2017 out for a spin, just to get a feel for what should be smoother shifitng compared to your 2015. And only time will tell as far as reliability goes...

TH 2016 is running great and smoothly, but apart from some clunky shifts I never had any problems with my 2014 either.
Only traded in because it was a North and I always wanted a TH and got a great deal on a loaded one at the end of MY clearance event at the dealer

Same here, my 2017 transmission is so smooth I don't feel it shifting at all except in a rare occasion. I would think as posted earlier that any KL built after 5-04-2015 should be fine. There shouldn't be any "quirky" shifting on a 2017 and you also get the Hid headlights on the 2017. Test drive one when you find what you want and if there is any "qirkly" shifting on it, don't buy it. I bought mine with 10 miles on it and it was smooth on the 75 mile ride home and has been since then. Since you didn't say if you or any of your family or riders were hurt when your 15KL got hit--hope none of you did receiver any injuries.

June 15 build on mine and was discussing with the wife while driving the other day. Mines smooth as and all gears work as should.

Cheers, Dave.

Thanks for the transmission info. Will definitely test drive a 17 first. My wife and daughters were hit front passenger corner by a Dodge Durango going between 30-40mph. The Jeep held up well, protected the family pretty well. No injuries besides seat belt bruises. This is part of the reason I am planning to buy another. Any other differences on the 17s?

Standard HID headlights on Latitude and above, exception is the Sport with Appearance package also. Regular Sport does not have HID's.
