Service Transmission

I had my 14 Cherokee at the dealer last week for the transaxle wiring crimp recall. They said that it didn't need a new part, so they just did the software flash specified in the recall. Not sure if it's related or a coincidence, but today the EVIC is showing "Service Transmission". When I shift to drive, sometimes it will clunk hard into gear, but D is flashing so I think it's in limp home mode. Other times when I shift to drive, nothing happens. The D flashes, but it seems to stay in neutral.

I just had it towed back to the dealer. I guess I'll have to wait and see what they find.

Question

Has anyone had their transaxle wire harness replaced under the S55 recall? Or heard about someone getting it replaced?

When mine was in for the recall, the dealer said they had only had to replace the wire harness in one Cherokee so far. All the others were just the firmware flash.
Array and 007 like this.

Probably screwed up the update on the TCM that replaces the need for the harness replacement in most cases.
My harness recall went fine and only needed the software update. Actually it seemed to run a bit better.
Only has had 1 update before that on my 2014 Limited.

Now the only other thing I can think of is the harness was actually defective and they missed it on the check.
Now your Cherokee is doing what it is suppose to do when the harness crimps. That is it goes into limp mode instead of stalling out on the side of the highway.

But I am sure your dealer will figure it out.
Good Luck and let us know the solution.

Thanks. They were going to "try" to look at it yesterday, but I didn't hear anything so I guess they couldn't fit it in. I hope they can get to it tomorrow. I'll post back when I get an update.

I have replaced 2 of them. Symptoms were the same. No engagement after a hot soak condition. No limp mode. All normal after a short cool down. Dealer was unable to verify.

Replaced wiring harness or full transmission?

I just got a call from the dealer. They verified that it's got the latest flashes installed, and they don't think the problem is related to the recall. They've opened a Star case with Chrysler and are waiting to hear back with next steps.
