Replacing Control Arms

Hey guys. Has anyone tackled replacing their front control arms assembly? I just ordered new ones for my Trailhawk because the bushings were shot. It was so bad to the point that I was getting a death wobble on bumps at highway speeds

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for this. I didn't it was going to be so bad but good to hear everyone's insight especially if someone has done it already.

70k. I'm surprised this is actually all I have to replace after I've beaten this jeep to death

Not a tough job? I thought the subframe had to separated from the body to get the bolts out?

Edit: that pdf refers to removing the lower load beam but does not cover its removal

Since you're having to replace the front control arms anyways, you should consider reaching out to all of the lift companies and tell them that you are a willing participant for a control arm replacement test LOL

Thanks for sending this over. The design of this is absolutely ridiculous. For one bolt, to have to remove the front bumper and load bar is just unheard of.

I agree. The reason many companies won't touch a lift is because if you remove the control arms you void the warranty. You should contact traxda and see if they are interested since you have to replace them anyways.

Yeah you think so? I'm not even sure on how to go about that lol

Searching the forum for "replace control arms" brought this up -
I took my Jeep in for regular oil change and 24month service/inspection and they said they need to replace the control arms (under warranty) and they deemed it unsafe to drive....it's only got 28K km's (17K miles) on it and I've never done any offroading etc.
Is this....normal?
Could this have anything to do with the fact that I'm running bigger tires (245/65/17) than my stock tires should be (225/65/17)?
genuine question...

I know this is a dead thread.. any updates on this. I am fighting with the dealer because i get a vibration driving and sometimes clunk and I believe its the driver side lower control arm, whats the test to see if its failing?

thanks!

I'm actually in the same boat here, my driver side lower control arm bushing is shot, and apparently we can't just pop a new one in, we have to replace the whole arm.

Curious to see how many people out there have had to replace their control arms because of premature failure. I'm at 48K miles, but the wobble has been there for over 20K of those. Took until now to diagnose after falsely accusing the rotors, struts, balance and alignment.

yeah, this is very frustrating, the 3 different dealers keep saying its the tires, yet i can hear a clunking which of coarse never happens when they check it out.. but i really wonder what the dealer cost would be to change it out, i haven't asked yet.

I've replaced both front sides. Even wrote a how to guide. It's posted under death wobble or something like that. Not easy, but doable on a good Saturday.

How big is your lift?

FYI, LCA replacement did not eliminate said front end vibrations. $750 DIY red herring.

Im hoping mine isnt like that, i actually hear a clunk that isnt the strut or the strut bearing..so I am assuming its the control arm. Also with mine, I can hit a bump and it will vibe, hit another bump and it will stop...

So had the dealer replace the struts and strut bearings with no change. Deal says the vibration is from the rotors... changed the rotors.. no change.. says its the tires.. had them balance the tires.. which are new continentals with only 3k miles on them... still no change.. they still think its something with the tires.. bought new rims and tires.. still can hear clunk.. they still dont think its the lower control arms.. i swear these jeep dealers are worthless... wondering if i should just change the lower arms myself or sell the jeep now.. its vibrates so bad on the highway.. and the dealer is playing stupid...

i totally understand your frustration!!! for 4,5 years having a TH - i have zero trust to molar specialists... worthLESS...
many visits... lame diagnostics, replacing unneeded parts...
i had a clunk from balljoints for 1,5 year... alternative non jeep mech found it immediately ...
molars are great at replacing under warranty parts... and oil changes...
