Cooper Discoverer XT/4

Just bought a set online this evening, went with 255-65/17 so they will be a little wider and taller than stock.
Wife wanted something that was better on snow and ice and what reviews I could find showed them to be almost as good as a dedicated winter (they are winter rated)........I'll post up a good review with pics once I have them installed. Slightly different tread than the American A/TW version

No clue about off road or snow use, but nice and quiet with even tread wear. Hope they work well for you.

Good choice, they should do very well in the snow and the tread blocks look decent enough for clearing mud ect.

We'll have to go out and do some comparisons with the Falkens.......
I might have actually bought the AT3W's like yours as they were almost $25/tire cheaper, but quattrotire is out of stock and PMC had them up over $200@. Figured I'd go with something different and slightly less in that case......winter test results played a big part for the Coopers....

My at3s were amazing , I never had a doubt with those so I can't imagine these would be much different .

What's the difference between the ATW and XT4? Which ones sways more AT and which one sways more winter?

I'm always on the lookout for the best tire but I have been pleased enough with the Firestone AT not to rush into getting anything. They are good enough in the snow that I haven't missed a winter tire, that being said, stuff like the ATW makes you wonder if it is possible to have both!

If you're talking about the Falken AT3W and the Cooper XT4, the Cooper tread definitely sways more towards winter. I would imagine the tread compounds are similar in silica content. Although the Falken probably has a higher Silica due to its slightly better UTQG rating (660 AB vs 560 BB for same size). Only a head to head test could really determine which is better for any given conditions and there really isn't much info on either at the moment.

Falken tread (appears to be more AT biased)

Cooper tread (definitely biased towards better winter performance with the siping, although the few tests out there claim very good AT and mud performance as well). It's certainly not as aggressive looking as the Falken, and if it wasn't for the wife wanting the best winter option I may not have chosen it. (Plus I wanted the best year round solution)

Hopefully Tyler and I can get together for some unbiased head to head wheeling to expose strengths and weaknesses of both. Our rigs are almost identically equipped with him running the Falkens and me (soon) running the Coopers, so it is the perfect scenario.

Oh interesting, I missed that it was the Falken AT3W, I thought you meant the Cooper ATW!

I suspected that, which is why I clarified
To be fair I was initially bringing up the US version A/TW for tread comparison, but was looking at a head to head with Tyler (who has Falkens)..........and we did end up throwing a couple different tires into the discussion....lol...just for confusion's sake

I don't think there's really much difference between the two Cooper versions. The tread pattern is slightly different and I do see some additional tie bars between tread rows that don't seem to be present on the A/TW version.
The X/T4 was developed specifically for the Canadian market (A/TW is US version) so it is possible it is a little more winter oriented in it's rubber formulation. Only Cooper knows for sure......and of course, guess which version "Canadian Tire" sells?......yep, the US A/TW
