Tire decisions

I need help deciding what tires to go to. I've been happy with the OE Firestone ATs, they are great in winter and on the dirt. I want to upsize to a 30.5", 245/70R17, and I would prefer severe weather rated. No need for an LT, I'm good with a P.

- Coopers are reviewed really well and I've bought them before, but they are low on my list at the moment.
- Duratracs are rated great and look good, but are noisy. Goodyear recently came out with the new Trailrunner, which looks slighty less aggressive (kinda like the Firestone AT actually), but has the weather rating.
- KO2s look the most aggressive and have the weather rating, but are the priciest, and most hyped.
- Road manners are a plus. I'm on snow maybe 10% of the year, and only truly off road a couple times a year.

How much has anyone gotten for selling their OE tires used? Mine have maybe 50% tread, and the spare is untouched.

I'm running the Canuck version of the Cooper A/TW (X/T4) and I am VERY impressed with their snow and ice performance. The stock Firestones were awful in both by comparison. The only problem with the A/TW is you are limited to a 245/70-17 for reasonable choice on the TH (the X/T4 has a 255/45-17 available that is a little lighter as all the A/TW's are LT rated)

I sold my 4 stock Firestones with 30,000 kms for $240

I live in the mountains of Colorado so I look for an AT that performs well in snow. I bought the Cooper ATW's for my Durango and love them. They are the best snow all terrains that I've seen. Toyo open country at's are also very good in these conditions. It all depends on what your needs are.

  • I like the KO2 idea, people love them, and they look the best. The are LT which I think is overkill, and by far the most expensive option.
  • I am liking the Goodyear TrailRunner at the moment, they come in P and have 265/65 and 245/70 (which I'm undecided on ATM). THis is also the newest tire option of the lot, except for the ATW styles. Much cheaper than the Duratrac, but less agressive looking.
  • I also see the General Grabber AT2 is a P tire, priced well, and severe weather also.

Anymore thoughts? I have plenty of time to decide.

I'm leaning towards the GG AT2 at the moment, it's very similar tread to the KO2, snowflake rated and is also studdable, and considerably cheaper than all the rest.

I got some hits on selling my OE tires, trying to get rid of all 5 for about $300 at 60% tread left on the 4.

I'm switching to the Km2's, but I don't have to put a lot of miles on my jeep anymore (new company truck) lol

It's not in the original poll, but I went with the GG AT2, P and not LT. Great price online at $650 for 4, snowflake rated and studdable, and similar tread to the $$$ BFG KO. The KO2 or Duratracs would have been about $900-$1k.
