curb strike, alignment or more?

mentioned in another thread but thought I'd start a separate one just for this issue. hit a curb last weekend & damaged a tire. using a full size spare now. a pre-owned tire with wear similar to the other 3 will arrive this week. I have an appointment to have the tire mounted this weekend. last night I noticed my steering wheel is offset by just a tiny bit. also, I think I have a tiny bit of shimmy, wiggle or vibration over 70 mph which I can feel & also see in the steering wheel. wondering if I'll need an alignment or perhaps something else?

I'm thinking I'll start w Town Fair tire to mount it up & check the alignment. I was going to just give them just the wheel w bad tire that's in my trunk, then mount it myself on the car at home. but now I'd like a pro look at the front end

I hit the curb at approx 5 mph maybe less

anyone have the same thing happen to them? or anyone with ideas?

Just get all 4 same type/exact size ratings/brand tires back on and check the alignment. If the same issues develop then a suspension component might have been damaged.
Also it is not unheard of having the rim itself damaged. That is very ever so slightly bent to not being noticeable at first.
Good luck.

that's the plan, thanks, btw the full size spare is on it's own new wheel. will be interesting to get the original wheel back on. yet another variable :/

One other possibility might be that the spare is a bit out of balance and is causing the shimmy. Unless it's a pain to do so, maybe you could get the new tire mounted and then swap it at home and see if the issue goes away. Then you can have the spare balanced at your leisure.

got lucky & got out of work early. stopped by the tire shop & they took me right away so no need to use my Saturday AM appointment. they mounted the new pre-owned tire & all seems well. no more shimmy, wiggle or vibration over 70 mph. car drives straight w hands off the wheel. but steering wheel is still offset by just a tiny bit. maybe it was always like that & I just never noticed before? they didn't offer to check the alignment & I didn't ask them to. gonna keep an eye on it

put the full size spare back in the well & the convenience spare back in my basement. stowed all my junk back in the well, had 2 of the bolts that had warped cap heads swapped for 2 new bolts. now down to 2 new bolts which I stowed with the 19mm deep 6 point socket & torque wrench

That's a good idea because it could be caused by a number of factors including road crown or wind. Good to keep an eye on the front tires for unusual wear because the service manual says a steering wheel off center can be caused by the front toe being out of adjustment.
