So I'm interested in putting on Bf Goodrich 225/65 R17 but I was wondering since I'm getting thicker tires on My Sports Altitude, does anyone think I might have to get the rear trailhawk control arms so the wheels are centered?
I haven't tested the limits, but I would hazard a guess that tire size would become a problem before the lift,as the wheel is not centered in the wheelwell to begin with. When I put the HS lift on my AD1, the wheel did not shift by any appreciable amount. Not sure if others got the same result, but mine only shifted by 1/16" on one side and no measured difference on the other.
I thought stock tires were already 225/65 17's? Also, I think your referring to the trailing arms, not the control arms. Anyway, I'm running 245's on my latitude with stock trail arms. It's not centered, but there isn't any rubbing. If you were to go bigger than that to say, a 70 17, then yes you would need them because it would rub.
@Mxttric: @Taf789 has the correct answer for you. 225/65/17 is stock size, you don't have to do anything. You can go a few sizes bigger before the wheel centering becomes a problem and replacing the rear trailing arms becomes necessary.
OP probably mistyped, and meant 245/65/17, but I'm just guessing. Sport Altitude is 4X4, so yeah 225/65/17 is stock size.
245/65/17 is stock TH size and fits any AD1/AD2 without rubbing.
So we wait on the real size number...
Edit : Sport Altitude can be had in FWD, so perhaps OP has that (225/60/17). If so, 225/65/17s will fit no rubbing for sure.
Edit #2 because of brain fart : Altitudes have 18" wheels... so stock FWD size is 225/55/18, while stock AWD is 225/60/18. And yes, 225/65/17s will fit no rubbing on a FWD, but new wheels are obviously needed too if going down from 18" to 17".
Ok, I'm just making sure because many people told me that I would have to change the trailing arm on the back for putting on BF Goodrich 225/65 R17. Thank you, everyone and I'm, going on stock suspension because I really don't need the lift, I just want better tires and wheels since I'm going to taking in on easy trails and towing with it. I was worried about the rubbing because my 18 in wheels have like a 2-2.25 clearance to the front of the wheel guard in the rear.
I have 18's on at the moment, but im downsizing to 17's.
