Question Parking Brake ??

I always pop my door open when I am backing up (because I am mirror challenged) and last night the parking brake came on while I was backing up. Is this normal?

BTW........I would read the manual but I don't have it yet.

You can download them from Jeep ==> http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/manuals/ Easier to search too.

This entry in the manual might be what you are encountering:

Safehold
Safehold is a safety feature of the Electric Park Brake
System that will engage the park brake automatically if
the vehicle is left unsecured while the ignition switch is
in RUN.
For automatic transmissions, the park brake will automatically
engage if all of the following conditions are
met:
• The vehicle is at a standstill
• There is no attempt to depress the brake pedal or
accelerator pedal
• The seat belt is unbuckled
• The driver door is open

Safehold can be temporarily bypassed by pressing the
Electric Park Brake Switch while the driver door is open
.
Once manually bypassed, Safehold will be enabled again
once the vehicle reaches 12 mph (20 km/h) or the ignition
is turned to the OFF position and back to ON again.

There is an option in the uConnect for auto applying the parking brakes, so if it is enabled overtime you park the car or open the door it will engage the brakes.

You can disable that option in the uConnect Settings.

I think that may only be for when you put the car in park. Not what is described above.

We turned it off because we park on a hill and was always told to apply the brake before putting the car in park.
