Thumbs down DAB Radio

Hi all!

Well, took my car to the dealer yesterday for the Uconnect update which was fine. Then, I asked for the DAB to be activated. No was the answer as there was no DAB in the South Island here in New Zealand Apparently the scanner is even blanked out for doing at my dealers. DAB is on test in Auckland and Wellington and it can be turned on in these 2 cities only! This is mad!

It seems we need special codes to make it go and can't be done from the front panel

I can take the car to either city and have it turned on. Crazy!

Oliver

No iPhone for me thanks.

I'm curious about your Uconnect Update. I've got a Oct 14 build TH and had a service this week. No mention of an upgrade for anything. We've got digital radio where I am, would love to find out if it's just waiting to be turned on, I'm getting a bit over the hassles involved with using my phone to stream the digital stations through an application.

Hi, Go to the UConnect website and put in your VIN. When I did, the site told me I had an update available. Wasn't showing at Jeep New Zealand but the dealers downloaded the update direct from UConnect and installed it.
As for DAB, I will have either to wait until the dealers' scanner is unlocked to do DAB here or if I got to a city with DAB get the dealer there to open DAB for me.

Ok, I checked my VIN on the site and there was an update last year, and it seems its just a matter of downloading on to a USB and plugging into the Jeep and follow the instructions. Before I do this, I will check with Jeep that they have not upgraded it during one of the services I've had since. There is no mention of it on any of the invoices. The upgrade is Service Bulletin ID: 08-007-15 REV A Release Date: 2015-06-11. It does the following. Enhanced performance in Navigation, HD Radio, AM/FM Sound Quality and Voice Recognition. These are all items I'd like to have as I find the navigation wanting quite often and I have problems with voice recognition and pretty much gave up on it (this might be my problem). No mention of Digital radio unfortunately.
To upgrade in the comfort of your home appears pretty straight forward (if you're a nerd, which I ain't).
Has anyone done this, and if so, does the car still go? I got a horrible feeling about playing around with the brains of a car.
At the moment, I'm thinking I may just talk to Jeep about it and get them to do it if it hasn't been done.

Flipper, whilst I haven't upgraded the uconnect in our KL (the upgrade coincided with the 20,000 service so they did it), I have done it 3 times on our Grand Cherokee. It really is very simple. I always buy a new USB for it so I know it's clear. Just follow the instructions (and don't open any doors or windows until it tells you you can). It takes about 20 minutes and just like any PC upgrade you do, you get a progress bar with what part its up to at a given point. The car is in aux mode, not run mode when you do it. The latest version is V15.17.5. To check, go Settings -> (page down twice) -> System Information.

If you choose to get the dealer to do it, then do what I did when I took it in for service - Print screen the Uconnect upgrade page that tells you there is an update for your vehicle. I just handed that over and said - here it is. No worries they said.

Oh edited to add: No DAB appeared. I wasn't expecting it be there either. I think my build date (Sept '14) was too early.

Ha! I should have just messaged you, you have all the answers. Good thinking about using a new USB, I'd hate to accidentally load something else. I'll go out and check what version I have loaded now....I'd love Digital radio!

Yeah I did mine last year just after I bought it and all worked well, though you do need the engine running as the update takes longer than the 20min it will run on either accesories or on with no engine running. Found that out the hard way after two failed attempts!

I just cleared an existing usb, downloaded the file and copied it over, plug it in then start the vehicle and it will find the update on its own then ask if you want to install it. Don't know if Ibhad DAB before hand but I do now! Mind you we dont have any stations up here, only in Brisbane.

I know yours is a 2015 build, but is it MY2016? I'm not sure when the DAB became available on the Uconnect

Mine is a June 2015 build (about a month before they started the 2016's) and had 14.xx.xx something software in it before I updated.

Bonza! Same as mine, hope it wasn't a mid MY change to the Uconnect.
