The car was due for a service and the day before I was to take it in for the service the car would not start.
A message came up on the screen between the speedo and tacko “No fob detected”
I called the Jeep Assist and a very switched on guy turned up in a sort time and showed me how to start it even though this was a hit and miss method, so when he started it he told me to drive it to the dealer straight away. Apparently on the Grand Cherokee the button can be removed and the key used but this is not on the Cherokee.
Apparently no part was required but just a software update.

So got the navigation update 16.16.13 but did not cure the loss of signal when exiting main roads or motorways.

Nope, the key hidden inside the fob on the GC is for locking/unlocking the glove box only, not starting the ignition. If the battery is running low or dead on the fob for the GC, you simply press the rounded end of the fob directly onto the start button and she starts. Ask me how I know.

Does this sound like what is happening with you? Seems a very weird problem. (Link is a Whirlpool thread about a new BMW).

No the fob was held on the cover below the steering wheel and when it was in the best position to connect with some module it would start. as soon as it was put in gear a warning showed and sound saying "fob has left the vehicle" and sounded for about 300 meters.
with the navigator I have a portable Garmin which has no problems. The number of exits has now started on two locations that previously it had no problems it seems weird. I recently stated doing it at my home exit ramp. it only catches up with its mistake when you arive at the next lights or roundabout or intersection.
The dealer said they would raise it with Jeep only taken 18 months that i have been telling them about the problem.
see what they come up with.
