Rock Sliders

I sent @gduck24's PDF to a friend of mine who built the sliders on my Comanche. He is getting all the steel and tube together to build me a set.

What do you think a reasonable price for them would be to you? They will not be powder coated or come with any hardware. But they will fit without the need for cover plates like RRO uses.

Here are my MJ sliders.

He also built my rear bumper

I'd be curious how much time per set the guy would work. If it was just a buddy doing you a favor type thing I could see getting them relatively cheap, but as an actual job, I would think it'd be tough to beat the $500ish for the RRO rails if he's actually wanting to make any profit at all on them. And just to clarify I'm not interested, as I already have mine.

Just to be clear, this is not a group buy deal. He will make mine and if the market is there and he makes a little money, he will make them to order. He does not have a big shop. He has a full time job in a fab shop and builds bumpers and sliders after he gets home from work. There could be a 15-30 day wait for them. He will also require a deposit up front to purchase your materials.

Any engineers want to chime in on how these will compare to the RRO sliders?

Obviously there would not be a warranty, we would have to do our own paint and find our own hardware... plus shipping will be insane. Assuming that these are stronger than the mopar ones and can more than hold the weight of the vehicle, then I could see spending $200 - $250. It would probably have to be around that or I would rather save up a bit more and get the RRO Super sliders... but I might be way off base. What does everyone else think?

hey everyone, i am the one that shelbyluvv showed gduck's drawings to...

ive skimmed through this thread. pretty simple design and great drawings. very helpful.
i did my own adjustments to fit mine and shelbyluvv's likings.
i will be giving these drawings to the laser office at work (once we both make sure EVERYTHING is correct) and have them laser them out.
save me A LOT of time!

cost---not sure yet.
give me a bit to look at more pictures and finish up other projects.

thanks, Brandon

I contacted a shop in Winchester VA regarding these. I was told they were interested... But their equipment is being calibrated.

I feel kind of strung along. Lol

I'm interested in seeing what you guys come up with, and how people may modify them.

There is a warranty on them, we are not at the stage where that is important. Shipping isn't too bad as he has a UPS account. Hardware can be bought off eBay for about $20. A lot cheaper than your local place will have it. $250 is just barely touching the time and material it takes to make them. Painting them is not a big deal either. I personally think powder coating sliders is just this side of full retard. Why would you powder coat something you are going to drag on rocks?

Fair enough, but that does bring up an earlier ponderance... how much are materials and how much time will it take to make? Also, will these be as strong as the RRO sliders? The mopar ones are a joke, these look stronger, and I have not yet seen how the RRO ones attach, but I know they require a lot of drilling. If we are using existing holes, will that make it weaker like the mopar slider? I might be missing something due to ignorance on how the RRO's attach...

250 might be off base, but we need to know where the true base lies so we can get an idea of where the cost should land. For instance, if materials land at 100 and it takes 3 hours to weld (once you get the routine of this particular job down) then with a 250 price you are making about 50 dollars an hour for your time... which is pretty amazing... and it would save us all a lot of money on getting awesome sliders and you would be doing us a HUGE favor... then again, if materials land at 250... you get the point. I for one need some perspective as my only welding experience in watching drillers and pipe fitters for a couple months each year, and I don't know what materials cost.
