Also my first post so take it easy on me.. After seeing a couple others with the red strip around the hood decal, I headed to autozone. Found pin striping tape 1/4 for $4. I had to try it. Here it is..

This is the best picture I could get from my iphone after work.. By the way that's Kratos and Athena waiting to go to the park.

Looks great. The up close picture didn't really do much for me , but now that I see the whole picture, I love it. Great job. My TH did not come with the black decal, but may add it and some striping (with someone else doing it for me--not that good at details)

Looks great. I plan on doing something similar when I get mine. I've never pinstriped before, so do you have any idea how it will hold up to washing? I mean it's only $5, but is the adhesive strong enough (and at the same time, removable if need be?) or will it start peeling after a year or so?

Just to give you an idea of how well the tape sticks ... back in '89, I striped my S-10. At the time, I owned a shop that tinted windows and applied graphics.

I threw some extreme patterns around the cab and on the side rails. Long story short, I was hit head on when someone crossed the center line to go around traffic. The truck was totaled. In '02, I saw it and had to run down the driver to talk about it. Found out the tow truck driver that snagged it from the accident scene liked it and bought it from the insurance company since it never left his storage lot. He rebuilt it in 1990, but never touched the bed. It still had my stripes and they still looked good.

That makes me feel better MadChemist.. I wasn’t sure how the tape would hold up, but I figured it was worth a shot for $4. I also wasn’t sure if I should put it on the paint or hood decal, but I ended up putting it on the decal. I thought that it would be easier to replace the decal, then to have to repaint the hood. Do you think it’ll hold up on the decal? I’ll try to update this post in the future to let everyone know how it’s holding up.

How is it holding out so far?

Any other pics would be welcome.

On granite TH, I could also see a light blue hood stripe look pretty cool w/ matching painted towhooks. Think I'll try the red for a while and change it up with light blue if I want something different.

It's holding up pretty good.. I've washed it a couple of times after and still looks like the first day I put it on. There's no fading yet, but we'll see how it does in the AZ sun this summer. I'll try to get some more pics up after another wash this weekend.

I've never worked with pin striping tape, and do plan to add some stripes to my TH when it arrives, though not in the same spot. How hard was it to do those curves? Does it stretch to do the bends, or what?

#21 ·
I never worked with pin striping either, but it was pretty easy. The first attempt I did notice that I was stretching the tape when it began to bend in, so I started over. The first time I was doing it 2-3 inches at a time and that made it hard. I would recommend for your first time to do an inch at a time when it starts to bend and you'll be fine.

That looks so good, I think the TH should come that way. It even goes well with the red tow hooks!

Thanks! Yup, it’s Granite. When I first got it people couldn’t see the decal until they got up close and now that’s the first thing everyone notices. It really gives it a good contrast. Now I’m thinking of painting the calipers red. I would like to powder coat them, but I’m no mechanic so I I’ll stick with the Dupli-Color or G2 Caliper Kits. I think that’s the last piece I will be adding any accents to, since the back has the trailhawk logo and tow hook (crap that just made me think about adding the other tow hook similar to another thread that’s been posted:-/)

Did you put the pinstripe ON the hood decal, or just beside. It sure looks good.

#30 ·
The pinstrip is on the hood decal. It didn't look right when it was beside the decal. I would suggest to try a small piece beside it first and see how u like it.

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to post new pics. Hopefully this weekend.. It's holding up pretty well though.

Looks awesome! I was planning on doing something like this when mine arrives.

Was also trying to picture what a red stripe down the sides would look like. I'll probably take some pictures and add a stripe in photoshop to see before doing anything like that. I think the stripe around the decal is a done deal though.
