How do I determine which windshield I have?

I have a 2014 Limited and last week a stone hit my windshield during a freak windstorm we had here (gusts up to 80-100 mph) that blew debris from a field into my car as I was driving. The chip has now cracked across the entire windshield and needs to be replaced. I thought I had glass coverage since after a repair I had told Progressive that I wanted to add it, but they never did (now they are going back through their recorded calls with me and listening for when I said it to see if it was an oversight on their part....basically I feel they are delaying the inevitable of me having to pay either my $500 comprehensive deductible or pay outright for a windshield). When getting estimates I know I will be asked a lot of questions about features of my windshield, all I know is that I have the defrosters on the corners, heated mirrors, a Willy decal, and have automatic headlights. How do I determine if there is the sound deadening feature? Or the humidity sensor? Is there a way to determine which of the 13-14 available windshields for KLs that is the one I need??

You may want to call up a glass shop, like Safelite, and give them your VIN Number. Explain the situation and they may help you out. I think there are way too many options on the front windshield, for anyone to accurately give you advice without the VIN.

I had my windshield replaced by my dealer last year, and I let them figure it out. It was covered under warranty, so this may not be the way you want to go.

I would still bring it to the dealer as they may be able to give you the correct part number so a glass replacement company could at least cross-reference it. And, don't be surprised if the Willys is NOT on the middle of the replacement windshield, even if you get one from the dealer...

Is there any difference between the Willys and non-Willys? Other than the little Jeep isn't on the window?

None that I am aware of. Right after mine was replaced, it seemed that (for whatever reason) other members who had their windshields replaced by the dealer or third-party, the Willys was gone.

If you use the search feature at the upper right screen, you can probably get more information about these new windshields...

This information that I have was from a while ago, but I've not been keeping up with all the chatter...

Most dealers use companies like Safelite. They literally just call them to their place and up-charge you. Safelite can order and use OEM glass.

This said, I'm a little peeved at Safelite at the moment. I took our KL in to have a chip repaired that they claimed was "no problem" only to have them crack the glass and now it needs repaired. Went from $115 to over $1100 and this is before I replace our window tint.

Edit to add.... Did I mention the glass is on national back-order

They cracked it...and you have to pay for it?

Well, we are still working on that.... The bummer is it was way out of the way and wasn't bothering us. we THOUGHT we were being proactive because we didn't want to lose the windshield. Looks like that was a mistake

My rub is it is an honest mistake, but I went on-and-on about not wanting the windshield replaced and if there was any potential in it being worse just leave it alone. They want me to file with my insurance which would ultimately cost me slightly less then the original repair. My issue with this is that insurance companies track comp. claims an I don't want to make one.

To be completely honest, I have buried my head in the sand to the whole thing at the moment. I'm still debating if I'd rather have cracked glass over them replacing it at all....

This was kind of going to be my plan of action. Take it to the dealer to figure out which part number and then call glass shops to find out prices.
