So I live in Iowa, drive weekly to Wisconsin, put on about 3k miles a month. Seeing that its starting to get winter thought I would ask, undercoating, yea or nay ? opinions ?

I have a lifetime MaxCare on this, so plan on keeping it till it dies....

opinions ? pluses, minuses ?

Well, as another Cherokee owner who lives in an area where they salt the roads, I can tell you that we had our TH undercoated, clear coated and scotch guarded. It is not cheap but neither are rust repairs. I have had our last new cars clear coated, a 2001 Mazda, a 2004 PT Cruiser and a 2008 Mitsu Outlander. They looked like new when I traded them, although I never waxed and polished them, just ran them through a touchless car wash. Well, I must admit that the Mitsu had a couple of scratches from brush when we were off-roading, but I doubt wax would have prevented that.

There have been a few undercoating threads and it seems like only our friends up north get it anymore.

I live where they salt the roads and I haven't even been offered undercoating in 30 years or more. I had to see if Ziebart was even still around.

But if you are talking about tar based undercoating I think almost everyone would say no since it can actually seal in any moisture and not let it drain away. In Canada they have some sort of liquid based coating that you get reapplied every once and awhile.

I am looking at options, I am not thinking of tar based, thats one of the first things am gonna ask about. Just concerned about a few things, I herd that it can void the factory rustproofing warrantee, so gonna call on that as I have MaxCare lifetime.

Our vehicles get exposed to plenty of salt every year. A friend has a 97 F-150 that doesn't have a spot of rust on it . He sprays everything he can get at with used motor oil cut with a little kerosene yearly . He had a ford truck before that one that he kept 15 years and did the same to it with similar results

Interesting idea...I guess. Hmm. Just got off the phone with MOPAR Warrantee services, they said it will not automatically void the warrantee, BUT, if they determine it caused other issues, they reserve the right to not cover it.

I have a few options here to get it if I do, two dealerships and 2 detail shops that will do it. I am just not sure if its worth it, does it really help etc.

Might get some quotes and see.
