Problem number 1: At approximately 7-800 miles the rear differential broke. The service center had the car for a week.

Problem number 2: Now close to 5000 miles and the car is in the shop again. They are completely replacing the transmission this time. Been in the dealer's service center for a week and a half. I was supposed to get it back today, but the technician called and said after getting the transmission back in they heard another noise which they attributed to a PTU (??) and I should have the car back Thursday.

I will not be buying another jeep. My first experience and my last.
Hello HBL and Welcome,
Sorry to hear of your issues with your Cherokee. There have been some issues with some of the earlier build Cherokees regarding transmissions/drive train. @GAMTNMANN is one member that actually had his original and very sick vehicle replaced by Chrysler. His replacement has been a great car. You may wish to private message him as he may be of help to you. He's usually on mid day. It seems most Cherokees have been good to their owners. I can only hope you get this resolved as it's such a bummer to have such high hopes for a new car and have such troubles. Speak with @GAMTNMANN he may be of help.

Mike

Sent in review, a good one. Hope our big trip to Montana doesn't malke a liar outof me but, right now, the TH is the best 4x4 I've ever owned. And that includes a Cherokee, 2 Land Rovers, Isuzu Trooper, Mitsu Outlander, Chev Blazer, and my very first, brand new, '64 International Scout.

Had a great trip to Montana in June. Left with 650 miles on the odo, came back with over 3,000 and nary one problem, Did another couple of thousand to Washington State in September, to see Mount Saint Helens and the coast line, and the TH still runs like a train. Heading back to Washington to see family for Thanksgiving and will have over 7,000 miles on it when we get back. So far, the best new car I've ever owned!
