Hi Everyone - currently driving a 2002 (purchased new fall of 2001) Jeep Liberty that I originally purchased to tow my 33/3400 pound boat and travel back bush roads on fishing trips. This vehicle has been one of the best I have ever owned but now has over 235000 km and is starting to show her age with required repairs and some minor rust. I have been patiently waiting to see the new Cherokee and prefer the look of the Trailhawk, but am a bit nervous about small reduction in towing capacity, interior cargo capacity, and durability of new 9 speed transmission. I will give the Cherokee a serious test drive as soon as my local dealer can obtain one, and hopefully answer all my concerns.

Towing Reduction

The V6 is rated at 4500lbs... looks like plenty for your boat. The 9 speed and the more powerful V6 will probably make the towing seem easier. I think the 9 speed issue is related to software programming, never heard any negative discussions about its mechanical toughness. Cargo capacity is a potential shortfall of this vehicle in my mind.

Hello Folks
- I am currently driving a 2011 Nissan Juke SL AWD and thought the new Cherokee would be a nice step up in terms of size and power. Having seen both the Limited and Trailhawk at the NY AutoShow furthered my curiosity with this model.

Jeep is working very hard to prevent any future recall which only means quality is job one with Fiat on board. And I would imagine it driving a bit more European, like the Ford Escape.

I like the look of the Trailhawk like most here, but I would need to drive one in order to give it a go. I am also looking at the CX-5 and Hyundai Sante Fe Sport.

The website now has configurations without sunroofs or 360 and backend views :(

I'm a new member. I'm currently driving a 2008 Jeep Liberty Limited and look forward to seeing the new Jeep Cherokee in person. My dealer tells me he will have some in next week. Glad to be a new member.
Welcome :)

How long have you owned the Liberty for?
Keep us posted on the Cherokee's your dealer is getting. Which dealer is it? would you be able to find out their allocation?

Hey, guys. I am currently driving a 2003 Honda Accord EX-6speed, my third Honda. Never owned an American car in my life and was never interested until I saw the first pics of the 2014 Cherokee back in February. It is so nice to see a site where everyone is enthusiastic about the new Cherokee and not bashing it. I placed my order in August and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival.

I am currently an owner of a 2013 Ford Escape Titanium AWD with every available option. I am interested in the Cherokee mostly for the tech. package. I already have many of the same things but I would really like adaptive cruise control. I'm undecided about the front end but I do like the interior. I haven't even had the Ford a year yet. I just can't seem to stick very long with a car. Maybe I'm addicted to new car smell. Maybe I just love new technology (I also own a Nissan Leaf).

#20 ·
No. Actually, the Escape is a nice vehicle. I did have a problem with the brakes and the 2.0L Turbo is a gas hog. As I said in my post, I change vehicles a lot. I will have to like the Cherokee a lot when I test drive one (and get a good deal) to make me trade in the Escape.

#21 ·
Although a member for a while now and a jeep owner from way back my present vehicle is a 2012 Dodge Journey R/T.
I usually change my vehicle every couple of years and my eye is set on the Cherokee Limited assuming I like it and more important to me that it suits my wife as a passenger , as she has some health issues that the vehicle has to compliment.

Currently own 2005 GC. Looking to replace it with the new Cherokee. Haven't seen one up close and personal, but the reviews are excellent. Cherokee Limited or Trailhawk?
I think that depends on what you are actually going to do with it. Statistics say 90% of 4X4 drivers never have actually taken their vehicle off roading so you can kind of go from that. How much actual off roading have you actually done with your GC? If none at all or rarely, I would go with the Limited. I have a Limited ordered. It is kind of in-between a Limited and a TrailHawk vehicle as I ordered it with Active Drive II and the off road suspension. The main reason I did it that way was there are some options on the Limited that you can not get on the TrailHawk. Also, I have no real plans to go off roading by choice but wanted the vehicle to be able to stand up to it if i ever did change my mind.

#25 ·
You make a lot of sense, macfan. I did some homework comparing the two after building both. I also added the off road suspension to the Limited. I think that is best of both worlds. Saw the Cherokee yesterday on a car hauler, nice, real nice. I hope to drive one this weekend as the dealers here just got them this afternoon.

#30 ·
Haha we can disregard and just share our love for our new Cherokee's!! Hopefully it doesn't take 8 weeks that'd be Christmas!
What options did you go for? I went for the Luxury package, wireless charging pad, spare tire, and CD player:)
I got $2500 for my USAA affiliation! So I'm ok with the price I'm paying :)

#34 ·
Trust me on this. The compact spare is standard equipment on the Limited. I know this because I have one ordered through the largest Jeep dealer in Mid Michigan. We are right down the road from Auburn Hills, Chrysler headquarters. If you don't believe me go to Jeep's website and look for yourself. Have your sales person contact their Chrysler zone rep to confirm this if you need even more proof. It is the full size spare tire that is the option. It is unbelievable how uninformed some sales people are or maybe they are deliberately tying to take advantage of people.

#37 · (Edited)
I did look at the website and book and its a full size spare with a tow package but the compact spare is not. The only model the spare is standard on is the latitude and that is according to the Jeep website. The full size spare isn't even a stand alone option... I think I added the screenshot...
Detail compare the models and its under exterior. My sales guy knew more than I thought he would... Either way no need to argue amongst each other...
Red wing I know it's old school but I love my cd's. I'm not a fan of the sun roof so I opted for the power tailgate and cold behind in the summer ;)

Sighs, DUH, the reason it is not listed as an option is that it is standard equipment. I can see you people did not grow up in the Michigan auto industry. I listed part of the standard equipment list from the Limited in my post above so it is on Jeep's website if you know where to look.

#43 ·
You can't add a full size spare unless you get the tow package. Also why would they list a compact spare tire as standard for one model and as an available option on the other 2 models? This isn't the first car I'm buying so I know the ropes... Would like to know where on the website you see it listed as standard

Respectfully, macfan, you have presented yourself as the foremost authority on all things jeep because you live near their HQ. I'm down the street from the King Center, but that doesn't make me the authority on MLK. My build sheets, the one from the dealer and the one from JG you get after your vehicle is built does not mention a spare of any kind, full size or compact. I questioned it at the time of my order because I have never purchased a car without one before.

At the same time, the build sheets don't mention all the nuts and bolts either, so I could be wrong, **** I hope I am wrong, but at least I'm willing to admit that.

The crow is on the table. I will happily pick up a fork and knife, strap on a bib and dig in if I am in error. I hope you can do the same.

Sorry, if I come on too strong for some of you. But it irritates me when sales people do not know their product. I am not asking anybody to eat crow but do want you to do your research and stop relying on what your dealer tells you. They are the last people to know anything. Even Auburn Hills will tell you that. Again, sorry you don't like my Auburn Hills reference but I am trying to tell you most people in mid and southeast Michigan eat, sleep, and breath cars. Our whole economy is built/based on that. I don't know anybody in my area that is not connected with the auto industry in some way.

This discussion is stupid. At this point I am not really going to worry anymore about trying to explain things to you. I am sorry your Jeep is not coming with a standard compact spare tire but mine is. You know where to find me to confirm that I am correct. I am not surprised your sales person is uninformed. I had to school my salesman on the differences between the two Uconnect systems and the Chrysler dealer zone rep about the VOTS system sending out emails. I will keep what I know to myself from now on. Silly me I thought this was a place to exchange information.
