Anyone else have their plastic shift lever...thingy...break?

18k miles on the jeep... Got in it and went to shift into reverse and the plastic thing you push in just fell out. I have no clue how it's held in place but I guess it broke somehow.
Pretty darn crappy for a vehicle with 18,000 miles on it. I'm sure the warranty will cover it and I'll have the stealership look it at when I bring it in for an oil change later this week.
Fortunately it didn't affect me being able to choose gears, aside from it being uncomfortable to push in now.

Had that happen to my wife's GrandAm once - after about 80K miles. And we had bought it used, so who knows what the previous owner had done to the shift knob button thingy.

The actual button underneath the button was very uncomfortable to push, so after examining very carefully how it was put together, I fixed the problem myself with careful application of a drop or two of super glue. Worked perfectly.

No way I'd do that on a new vehicle. At 18K miles, I'd expect an entirely new assembly.

After looking at the piece that broke off (sorry didn't think to take a pic of it) it appears that a small piece of plastic broke off. Not sure how exactly it's held in, but I'm assuming whatever that plastic piece was is the reason it came off.

I'm beginning to wish I had waited on more reviews before buying one of the first Cherokees my dealer had. Between the insane amount of recalls, transmission issues, seemingly poor quality of some parts, etc, I think I would have probably passed on the Cherokee purchase.

6 out of 9 Cherokees have had this happen. I would hope they upgrade the part.

Really? Do you have anything to back up that claim?

You and me both brother. Have worked for Chrysler for 27+ years and this is only my 2 Chrysler product. Don'y know why I thought it would be different, but it will be my last Chrysler product. I work too hard for my money to put it out for this crap.

Do you think I have the time to go to Dealer Connect and collect warranty history just for you? Trust me on this. I have 4 spares in my office. You do have to consider that my fleet has 85 to 105k and suffers more abuse than most.

This just happened to my jeep yesterday, almost 18k miles on it. Did you get it repaired yet? Did the warranty cover it?
