Leather Upgrade Project

I have to admit that I purchased my Cherokee while under tremendous anxiety, having recently totaled my JKU while breaking my femur in the process...feeling sad and depressed I went to my local Jeep dealer, saw an Altitude model, liked the look (albeit basic options) wrote a check and drove away...3 weeks later I'm missing some of the upgrades that I'm used to having that was not included in my Cherokee like sat/nav, which I've upgraded here: Another 5.0 to 8.4 upgrade - Less expensive route and leather!

I considered the Mopar by Katzkin leather upgrade covers, which is reasonably priced but was unsure of the fit and finish. I decided to check some wrecking yards and found a pass/driver plus rear seat with good airbags from a 2015 that only had 4,500 miles for only $450. I drove 200 miles to see them and they are like new, the color matched perfectly with my interior. Now the conversion starts.

Mortorq

Had to drop $50 on a set of Mortorq drivers! I read that you can get away with using either a T30 or T40 Torx driver...those did not work for me. I thought loosening the bolts would be tough, not the case at all, they were easy to remove. Both rear and front seats use an M2 size Mortorq, you'll also need a 16mm hex driver for the rear seat.

Leather Upgrade Project

My local car audio shop had to buy a set of those to install dynomat in my Dodge Dart. They weren't happy.

Rears installed

Got the rears installed...so much nicer. Now on to the fronts. First I'll need to run power from the interior fuse block to the driver power seat.

Since my Jeep did not come equipped with power seats there was no power connection at the wire harness under the seat. The new leather driver seat has power lumbar (thin red lead) and power 8-way position control (thick red lead), I ran power from the interior fuse block to these leads.

Considering the like new condition I'd say these definitely were a steal. Going the junk yard route definitely saves some coin. Front leather seats, with good air bags, from wrecking yards run between $150-$250.

I hear ya. The 8.4 upgrade is a plus, especially at the wrecking yard rate. No need to go brand new when you have just as good used.
