Sunroof drain channel musty smell

I have an occasional musty smell. I checked for carpets wet, spare area wet (even underneath plastic), cabin filter, and no source. The kids helped me sniff it out; It is coming from the drain channel of the sun roof. My roof only drips a tiny bit in a car wash and the drain channel takes care of it. I think the low amount of leak along with garage storage contribute to the channel building up crud and smelling bad. I can find no traced of any wet in the car.

Has anyone noticed a "smelly roof"?

I am planning to flush it with warm water and maybe just a bit of simple green. The idea is to open the roof and use a large ketchup bottle type thing to gently squirt and flush right into the channel. I'll post the success or failure....

You can always try a straightened coat hanger, but don't push if you meet resistance. There is plastic cap on the ends of the drain tubes, with a hole facing the rear to create a vacuum to help drain the tubes.

Note: never park outside with the roof in vent or open. Helps to keep crud out of the drain channel which runs around the perimeter of the roof. This way, no crud can block a drain tube.

Thanks. Didn't know about the ports at the tube ends. I think I have a soap-scum buildup from car washes and not any debris. I have never had an overflow, but then again, My roof drips very little even in a brushless car wash (high pressure).

Weekend project here we come. I'm glad it will be 72 and not snowing.

Use vinegar... it will smell at first, but it will sterilize and clean out the mildew.
