Finished (for now!) my rear cargo, area storage solution. The KLis really lacking in usable cargo space, so I tried to maximize it.
On the left side: the large black bag is the "MOLLE Gear Bag" from LA Police Gear. (They have great gear fow low prices, I've bought a lot from them in my previous line of work). I cut the carry handles off and removed the shoulder strap. It's attached with the attachment straps that came with the bag on the far right. I had originally wanted to get the Jeep roadside kit bag that clips on, but I already have all my own roadside gear, and I couldn't find the bag sold by itself anywhere. Couldn't justify spending $75+ for a bag, so I got the LAPG one for $15.
The tan bag on the inside of the CMS bar is the case for the Viair 87p
air compressor I just bought. Price on Amazon dropped from $52 to $40 over the past 3 weeks... had to get while the gettin's good, and I'm glad I did, cuz I see it's now back up to $49. Fits perfectly where it is, though I can't just slip it in, I have to open up the bar to put it in or take it out.
The tan pouch next to the black bag is just a Molle pouch I had lying around, it originally came on a rifle case I bought a while back (Condor? I think) that had a bunch of pouches attached to the outside. There's nothing in this pouch yet, but I had a little extra real estate.
The built-in cubby contains 4 re-usable shopping bags and a bungee cord, for my grocery shopping trips. These get used very frequently so I want them somewhere very convenient.
On the right side is the "Deployment Bag" from Condor. Got it on Amazon for ~$18. Nice little bag, and it fits perfectly. Thanks to @macman37
for the tip on this bag. The little tabs built into the cargo area wall slip right into the bag's molle webbing on the back side. It hasn't been subjected to any bumpy roads yet, but I think gravity will be sufficient in keeping the bag securely on the tabs. If not, I'll have to secure it better.
Also, the mat you see is the "BDK Heavy Duty Rubber Cargo Floor Mat" from Amazon. It's one of the universal 'cut to fit' kinds. Fits great, but I did have to cut off a sliver of about 1/2" in one spot. My dog sheds a ton of hair, and I got tired of having dog hair as my cargo liner, so I bought this and I love it. Vacuums up easily, and if it gets dirty and muddy, I take it out and hose it off, easy peezy. The divider cage is for the pup too, obviously. Works pretty well but I have to re-adjust it every few weeks to ensure a tight fit, and it took a lot of trial and error to finally get it to not rattle.
I won't go through every single item and its exact location, but between the tray above the spare tire and these bags, I now have the following items with me at all times: jumper cables, road flares, hi viz vest and Mechanix gloves, some basic hand tools, extension cord, bungees/zip ties/duct tape, very thick warm jacket, beanie, hiking boots (in case I get stranded and have to hoof it), a light blanket, rain poncho, homemade firestarting kit, handheld fog horn, whistle, compass, small binoculars, CPR mask, latex gloves, bowie knife, 1 gallon water jug, flashlight (that's actually up front) and probably a few other small items I forgot off the top of my head. I also EDC a pocket knife and a Leatherman Wave multi-tool.
Going to install a small lockbox inside the passenger seat cubby to store a pistol in. I've seen it done in another thread and I'm a fan. I'm going to apply soon for my CCW (aka LTC, concealed weapon permit, or whatever) but I'm in California so that's an uphill climb. (I have to *apply* for MY OWN natural-born rights, wtf kind of crap is that? "Free country" my a$$!! Don't get me started...) In the mean time, it would be nice to at least keep a gun in the car and not worry about getting locked in a cage.
Still have to get a few more items, so it's a work in progress. One of those things that will prbably never TRULY be done, but the bulk of it is done at least. I can carry a fair amount of equipment AND still have it nice and tidy back there, and there is plenty of room for my furry friend to get up and stretch.
