Opinions on price...

Afternoon (or morning?) all!

So, about to bite the bullet and buy my first Cherokee after wanting one for a LONG time. Third one in my family...

That being said, I've been overseas for a bit and not sure what pricing should look like.

I'm looking at a new 2017 Cherokee Overland w/ Tech Package, Active Drive II, and Full-Size Spare.

They're asking for $38,881 before taxes. I emailed a bunch of places, including some a bit further out, at that's the lowest I've got so far.

I'm willing to pay a little more for the convenience of the dealership being close (and that it has a good reputation)...

Thoughts on that price?

Thanks!!!

For a 2017 the price sounds decent. One question though as I always recommend is get the tow package even if you don't think you will ever need it. I am not sure it is offered on the Overland-don't think it was in 2016, This is one item you really can't add like it comes from the factory. It cost more money to add a hitch and only get 2000 lb rating compared to tow rating of 4500 with factory installed tow package. You may already know about this and not be interested in a tow package--just trying to inform in case you were not aware of that. Anyhow, enjoy your new KL.

I thought about the tow package, but I don't think (think being the key word) I'd need it. That being said, I did check with some dealers around here when I was pricing things out, and none of them had any tow packages on the Overlands.

And thanks! Really looking forward to getting it!!! The only thing I'm not sure of is the wood on the steering wheel, but I'm sure I'll get used to that!

@IRSmart maybe he can provide some insight on the tow package. Building on the website it's weird for the overland. You can buy the tow package prep but don't get an actual hitch. You'd get everything like you had a tow package but without the hitch and that doesn't make sense to me. I wonder if one can be ordered with the tow hitch. Personally, if you ever have plans to tow or for resale I'd get the tow package.

hmm...I took a look, it looks like the Overland is presently only available with the prep package. included in that package is:

• 180 AMP ALTERNATOR (BAD) - W/EHK
• 7 AND 4 PIN WIRING HARNESS (XF2)
• FULL SIZE SPARE TIRE (TBB)
• HEAVY DUTY ENGINE COOLING (NMC) - W/EHK
• TRAILER TOW WIRING HARNESS (XEY)

when compared to the equipment that is under the trailer tow package (in other trims), the upgraded gear ratio is included in that package, where it is NOT listed in the prep package. this tells me that the overland is NOT capable of a 4,500 lb towing capacity, you're looking at 2,000 max no matter what configuration you're looking at. if I had to guess, this is because there is presently not a separate painted bumper cover with the trailer hitch cutout available. that's just a guess though.

Thanks for the info. I agree that it's likely because they don't have a bumper for it yet. I also didn't notice the gear ratio. At least with the prep package someone could do a uhaul hitch which hangs below the bumper.

More information on Overland Tow capability--that chart if it comes up does give the Overland 4500 lbs. towing. Also, I noticed elsewhere there is a protection package which adds the skid plates and full size spare tire which is another addition this year.
