16 Cherokee Sport 4x4 / 4cyc. Deal?

Hi everyone,

I am upgrading from my old 2007 Nissan Titan for a new 2016 Cherokee Sport 4x4 w/ the 4 banger.
I know the displacement is much smaller and going from a truck to an mid-size suv, but I have reasons as my Titan is over 240K miles and I drive about 400-550 miles per week. So going w/ the 4-banger seems to be a good way to save @ the gas pump. I still getting 4wd so no worries there.

My questions are for owners is how reliable are the 2016 w/ the 4 banger and anything to be aware of its reliability?

Also my price out the door w/ my titan trade is $18600. You folks think this is a good deal?

Note: this is the sport model and I don't care of upgrades as it has decent stereo, bluetooth, 4wd and 4 cyc to save @ the pump. Being a basic model I am ok with steel wheels it comes with as I plan later to get better custom rims and nicer over size (by a little) tires soon.

Thanks for any input and thoughts.

Welcome Blue!!
It's a good deal but, the difference between the V6 and I4 is not much when it comes to mileage on any of the 4x4 KL models.

16's and up haven't been on the road long, the only problems with the 15's and 14's were oil consumption issues with the I4's but, they haven't been reported much lately.

With the mileage you are stating, suggest a MaxCare Extended Warranty with Unlimited Miles and Years, it's and extra 2500 to 2800 but, worth for the long haul or long miles. Clay at Zeller Motors can get you the best price unless your dealer matches, mine did so I got lucky.

Either way, good luck with the purchase.

Thank you both for your reply back and I really do appreciate it. After posting this thread I did use the "search" button and to see if I found any issues by others. I only read about the havoc on these transmissions on the 2014s trail hawk or others and not much on the 15/16s gens.

I then went to Edmunds and read owners reviews and it seems lot of them are not happy with these 9-spd transmissions and some left stranded broken down on the highway.

RSKI- the 4-banger seems good and does the job and if I would not mind the 6cyc and not regret, but i am on a budget on what I am willing to finance after trade . As for power on the 4-banger I did notice when putting it into sport mode it was nicer with offering more response and acceleration.

Any of you know if this 2.4L was the same that was in the Dodge Journeys? I used to own a 2013 dodge journey with the 4 cyc and we hated, hated it. but this Cherokee with 2.4L seems way more powerful. If this is the same engine as the 2013 we had, I think we'll pass because @ first the Journey seem to do good, but as we drove more (got rid of it @ 40k) that motor just seemed very tired and even though we thought it save of on mpg going with the 4 cyc it worked much harder and the MPG did decrease to what the mpg would of been if I gone with a v6 in the Journey at that time. lol.

But if anyone know that these two were different motors that would ease my decision.

Thanks again and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

The v6 gets better fuel mileage than the I4 from what iv'e seen.

Currently getting 13.5L-14.2L/100k with the I4, but I have a muffler delete, resonator delete, 2" taller tires than factory, and a whole crap load of junk on the roof that reduces aerodynamics significantly. So I can't really give a good comparison.

Hey all,

I took it all in and told my sales rep that I felt that the 4 cyc on this 2016 is underpowered and was afraid it would not be happy in the long run. Plus the sport edition to my wife that it was too boring as it didn't have anything to make it worth the 18K purchase price.

Sales rep took it to heart and assisted me and getting a 6 cyc.

So today I am a proud owner of a 2014 Cherokee Limited with 38K miles with the Active Drive II. Got it for $16K and then purchased the 50K bumper 2 bumper warrant with 5-year windshield replace / repair warranty.
We really like this one as it has the Nav and huge touch screen panel w/ heated seats / leather and auto start.

Does anyone know what brand these 14 limited stereo system is? I read and I think it would be alpine? Anyone here would know how to find out? It does not say it on the touch panel.

Thanks again,

Is that warranty for an additional 50k miles or does it end when your vehicle has 50k miles, which would only really be 12k miles from now

Its for an additional 50K miles from my current miles . The finance manager said it be good to almost 90k miles.

This is the warranty I purchased. It is the Premier Plan.

OK a third party warranty. I was wondering as you were past the 3/36 for the Chrysler one. Will give you some extra coverage for anything unexpected. That is good.
Was that 16k price with a trade in or just for the "14 Limited. Pretty low to be a solo deal.
You will love the '14 Limited with AD2 etc.
Have one very similar and at 3 years its still a lot of fun to drive. I just love it.
I have had no transmission issues in those 3 years. In fact I have only needed 1 required update besides a minor one with the TCM cable recall.
The 6 speaker basic system in my Limited is great. Have never looked up the brand they use. But again I am not an audiophile.
I love the perks on the Navigation such as the Travel link weather maps and the speed reminders it calls out when I am over the posted limit.
Again congratulations on that Limited. Should serve you well for the years ahead.
