Purchasing a 2017 Cherokee

Hello everyone, My wife and I are currently in the market for a new mid-size SUV and we are very interested in the Cherokee. We test drove it and absolutely loved the ride and the V6 power as well as all of the included amenities (2017 Latitude True North Edition) and the dealer is offering huge incentives on all of the Cherokees right now (Roughly 10K dealer cash). We really love the Jeep and are very close to pulling the trigger on it however we continue to see poor reviews about the Cherokee and while we understand some of that stems from the underpowered V4 in the base model, we can't get past the reliability scores. Can anyone elaborate on why the car reviews so poorly in this regard? As it stands right now, I really would like to purchase the car since I love everything about it however I just don't want to be on the hook for several expensive repairs as soon as the dealer warranty runs out. Thank you

I'm still under warranty & had to pay out of pocket for new wheel bolts due to the poor design of the added tin caps that deform if not handled with kit gloves. don't get me wrong, I love my car & it sure beats having multiple engine swaps as with my last Subaru. Hyundai & Kia have much better reliability. they also feel & drive well.if I were to buy a different vehicle it would be one of those. but they're not this. when it came down to decision time for me I decided which car I wanted to go back and get in and drive. this was it. I took the plunge & crossed my fingers. but so far, so good for Mr Jeep

Then buy one and get the Mopar Unlimited Max Care Warranty. You can get the warranty on-line at a price considerably less than what most dealerships charge. Roll the price of the warranty into the vehicle price and include it in your loan (if you aren't paying cash), and then relax.

I have had ZERO issues. Everyone has an opinion, and some of them stink. What they won't say, is that our Cherokee has Alfa Romeo DNA. This is why it rides so well and is still a Jeep! I purchased an extended warranty just for all of the electronics.

^^^ Like dhh3 said above, everyone has opinions, and here's mine...

- Get the (FACTORY - Not a dealer add-on) tow package whether you think you will need it or not.
- Get the tech/safety group, or whatever they call it today. It may pay for itself by helping you avoid a fender bender.
- Get the premium sound system.
- Get the head unit with Navigation.

The 2017 (except Sport) already has HID headlamps, so you're good there. Agree with your thoughts on the V6.

If you look through the threads on this site, there are many that are about upgrading the things noted above. Jeep has done a nice job integrating these features. Save effort/money and include them in your original purchase.

Added: Forgot to mention the drivetrain. Get AD1 at least. Assuming you do see snow.

I had a 2014 Limited Cherokee which gave me no problems at all.
Now have the same vehicle only a 2017 and it also is preforming great.
I would not buy a second one if the first one gave me problems.

The problem with forums is the only vehicles you hear about are the ones giving some problems and the folks with trouble free vehicles hardly ever post.
Kind of skews the results somewhat

I have a 2016 i purchased w/ 9500 miles. 10000 miles and 2 oil changes later - No issues. A rattle (may have been caused by the Katzkin installer).

like others have said:
Get the Nav / Comfort & Convenience package, The 9 speaker is worth it (unless you want to put in all new speakers and an amp), and get the MAXCARE unlimited.

9 Speaker Package (upgraded to 5 Kicker CSC35 & 4 Rockford Fosgate R169x2) / Comfort & Convenience Pkg / Safety & Convenience Pkg / Panoramic Sunroof / Katzkin Leather / XD HID Headlights / XD xtreme LED Fog Lights / Maxcare Unlimited Miles and Years $100 Deductible.

Reviews are reviews. In other words opinions of the individual writing the review.
They can be biased in my opinion.
Now with that said I have a 2014 Limited w/AD2, V6, Tow, Complete tecch group etc, but no Prem sound and sunroof though.
Also no issues with mine considering 2014 was probably the most problematic year for the Cherokee
So I am biased for this vehicle with only one real caution. The rear sight lines are horrible looking out the back while attempting to back up.
Back up camera helps to a point but having the cross path detection and rear sensors go a long way to mitigate the issue. To be honest most vehicles in Cherokee's class look to have the same issue. @Array had some great points. A Mopar Max-Care extended service plan may very well allay your concerns in the dependability area. You can get one to suit your situation. I believe the Life time one is not available in Canada though.
At a minimum I would include the cross path detection and if the purse allows get the complete package. It is a great system and is very passive to the point you forget its even active. That is until its needed.
Tow is another great option. A side benefit is, it will protect you and the vehicle in a rear end crash better than if without the tow hitch. That is from personal experience.
$10k is a great deal on this vehicle and with the right options you may never want to give it up. Actually I am enjoying mine as much as the day I bought it! And that is 3 years later.
